I would keep the volume controls on iTunes and Pure Music at 100% and adjust at either the DAC or preamp. Sometimes it's like someone took a knife, baby Edgy and dull and cut a six inch valley Through the middle of my skull Link to comment

Both should be analog volume controls which are generally where you want to control the volume as opposed to a digital volume control which throws away bits.
