ackcheng
I have a Macbook Pro and considering how to establish an external hard drive for my music collection (all high resolution files at 24/192, upsampled with software). Would using an express card with SATA output be a better option than USB, firewaire or LAN? It seems that SATA uses PCIe technology internally Link to comment
gsquared
I don't know whether it would be a better option or not, but if you do decide to got that route, assuming your Macbook Pro does have an Expresscard slot, make sure to get the right card. The Sonnet Technologies Tempo Pro is a very good card and uses the latest Marvell chip and provides better performance compared to other competing cards. This is how I plan to connect my external drive for music as well. gsquared
Lars, the Sonnet Tempo Pro should work great for accessing an external music library, but be aware that you cannot boot from an external drive using that card (if you ever wanted to). But for the purposes of an external music library, it should work excellent.
