Hi Steven. Sorry to hear about your issue. Perhaps if you did a factory reset it might help. The procedure is outlined on page 18 of the owners manual. Hold the > button and the + button on the front panel in simultaneously while turning on mains power by the switch (R10) on the back panel until the countdown commences.

Don't worry. If that doesn't sort it AMR Tech Support are really helpful.

Yes Owen is really nice and always helpful. I don't know if it is that he can be in various parts of the world's time zones, but yes emails arrive with middle of the night date stamps :)

I'm listening to Michael Hedges "Pure Michael Hedges" on the DP-777 SE now. Michael Manring joins him on bass on that. The bass is subterranean but articulate and the rest so musical. I'm a very happy bunny.

Consider an iPurifier 2 sometime if you are minded to consider an upgrade of any sort. I use it as you see below with a iFi Gemini cable. Blacker background, more air and detail in crowd participation, more resolution and improved musicality. Great bass and more precision generally. Better separation in busy faster passages. Like it so much I have a second one on the way for the Retro 50 system in the living room.

My DP-777SE is 5 months old,

looks that AMR have some poor quality problems

Mmmm you have made two posts here. The first to say you have a problem, and the second as quoted above.

It's at times like this that the Internet really pisses me off. What actual data do you have to support your conclusion? It really annoys me when blanket statements like this are made, without seemingly any consideration for how damaging they can be.

Have you contacted your AMR distributor, or AMR direct? Making a statement like you have seems unnecessary and harmful.

No need to apologise to me. You did not hurt my personal feelings. It's just that I find it difficult not to be outraged by sweeping disparaging generalisations, without apparent awareness of the damage that might be caused to a commercial enterprise.

I am also surprised that you say AMR did not "bother" to reply....an emotive word. I have a good deal of iFi and AMR gear, and have never found either support to be wanting; not at all, in fact the contrary.

Hello Steven,

I have the same issue after having my DP-777 upgraded to SE.

My unit was returned to the US Distributer and had a new volume chip installed but the problem returned a few months later.

I'm still working with Owen to get a resolution.

I was wondering if your DAC has been repaired yet. AMR stated they have an issue with the volume chip.

Thank you

John Wolfe

Hi John, yes i had to return my DP-777se after upgrade with faulty volume control and received it back after 2 weeks fixed but last week the problem came back, volume jumps to full blast if i touch volume up or down, right and left channel cut out as well,my Dac is going back to AMR tomorrow again, Owen has been looking after me,i was asked not to post problems here and to contact AMR directly and did this not wanting to harm AMR sales as i thought problem was pacific to my unit,i can now see why i was asked to not post here as it would seem there is a real issue with something after upgrade,my unit was under 6 months old and working perfectly before upgrade to se! I can't fault AMR for there support which is excellent and we will have to work with them to resolve this matter once and for all,i am been given a replacement Dac iDac2 while AMR get to bottom of this problem which i am very great full of even if it will be a downgrade for a while, would have been nice to get a replacement DP-777se or there top CD player to listen to but not to be,also spent nearly £600 on ifi Gemini USB cable and ifi micro iusb 3.0 to take Dac to next level but Dac not been working long enough for proper evaluation.

Steven,

I must admit that amr support both here in the states and in the UK has been very helpful. The US distributer even offered to send me a preamp on loan untill the DAC was repaired and Owen offered me the iDac2 as well. I purchased an iDAC2 and purifier prior to my upgrade (to use as a stand in in my main system) and was quite pleased. I have them in a second system currently.

Hi John

Yeh Owen has just filled me in on the problem and would seem not all units are affected and there is a solution now so all good, there was a fault with some chips it would seem but the problem does present its self within first 2 months and in most cases in first few days,AMR support is fantastic and makes dealing with this easier but lets hope we have seen the last of this volume Gremlin.

I have been experiencing issues with my DAC whenever I run unit for long lengthy periods I occasionally lose sound on both left/right channel output. In order to get sound back I have to power down and than restore power after a hour cool down. Once powered up sound is restored. I have unit in a well ventilated area with no other component near by to suggest a thermal overload. I would appreciate some feedback as to what might be the issue!

Hi Audiogalore, sounds like you might have a faulty volume chip few of us have been working with Owen from AMR to resolve this problem and AMR have stated they have a fix,i received my DP back yesterday and it sounds wonderful i have sent Owen an Email regarding your problem and i am sure he will contact you very soon but you could contact AMR direct if you wish, your DP will have to be shipped for repair i think by sound of it as this behavior is not normal.

Hi.

Can you please open an AMR ticket here ( support.ifi-audio.com ) - we've migrated this into our iFi STS.
