Black Lion sparrow red/white and pro DACs

Recommended Posts

On some other forums I sometimes visit I read a few good reviews of the Black Lion sparrow white. Does anyone here have any experience concerning this DAC?

I know it lacks a USB input but from what I read its a very capable DAC.

Are there any other pro-audio DACs which might be interesting for the consumer market?

Pro sacs have fallen out of favor here. Some great interfaces; Weiss, Mytek, Unity Audio, Antelope, Prism, and Metric Halo.

All are very good. But product runs are long and the buzz fades away.

Lower priced ones also can very clean and punchy. Many have been left behind by Windows upgrades. 64 bit and other OS changes.

The BLA with no Thunderbolt, FIreWire, or even USB just is not a computer audio Dac.

2012 Mac Mini, i5 - 2.5 GHz, 16 GB RAM. SSD,  PM/PV software, Focusrite Clarett 4Pre 4 channel interface. Daysequerra M4.0X Broadcast monitor., My_Ref Evolution rev a , Klipsch La Scala II, Blue Sky Sub 12

Clarett used as ADC for vinyl rips.

Corning Optical Thunderbolt cable used to connect computer to 4Pre. Dac fed by iFi iPower and Noise Trapper isolation transformer.

I have to say that's a ugly looking DAC.

The pro-audio market is maybe a bit more conservative. All FOTM DACs need to have at least DSD128. I wonder why the DAC consumers have such a short attention span. Hi res DACs 24/192 have been on the market for some years now. I'm not sure if a 5 or 10 year old DAC is really that much worse compared to the lasted DACs.

Maybe more DAC producers should be less worried about the looks and more about the sound.
