The old Mercury Living Stereo recordings used a similar technique. They used 3 microphones; https://www.stereophile.com/content/fine-art-mercury-living-presence-recordings

In a sense, as I understand it,  that is also what Sound Liaison does except that the three microphones are all in one body, so the phase is none existent.

Btw. all those One Mic albums as well as their other albums are on sale as we speak; https://www.soundliaison.com/index.php, 20% off.

During my iterative improvements for remastering -- I think that I have some pretty impressive ABBA examples -- especially considering the original material.  My biggest mistake is often I will switch Left and Right.  My source material is always flipped around, and I don't have the correct L/R mapping written down.

In these examples (which I need to pull back in a day or so), you MIGHT notice better stereo depth than most other versions.  It isn't because of the local DolbyA decoding per-se, but rather the way the material was decoded.  These ABBA ARE mastered by me, but nothing outrageous done (no matrixing/etc.)  Sometimes ABBA can sound better with matrixing, but I didn't do anything like that.

These are SUPER clean sounding as ABBA goes.   Like on Mama Mia, the compression in the chorus doesn't 'bunch-up' like distorted over compression, and the Super Trouper leadin and chorus maintain their integrity.  And, for funzies, I have added some Olivia in (but no mastering -- pure decode.)  'Take me home' might come though with a little bit of crackle -- I'll try to fix that soon.

Again, these are disappearing in a day or so..  (These should be better than *any* other download or source.)

Hi Mev, could you place a link? I can't read the title.

Streamable from Qobuz in 24/96, and possibly from Tidal in 16/44 (they have the lossy version of course).  It really is a nice listen, even though I don't normally listen to metal/hardrock....no doubt I will end up buying it, which will be the first Tool album I have purchased since the first one back in the 90's 😋

Hey MQA, if it is not all $voodoo$, show us the math!

I was just reminded of this track, which is a current fav for assessing the NAD, Sharp combo,

The system juust manages to hang in there, depending upon the status of tune at the time - slightly below par, and the track becomes impossible, sounds a mess ... this sort of recording makes it easy to get a snap, Yes/No verdict, when such is needed.
