Musicophile
Keith O. Johnson: Reference Recordings | Stereophile.com FYI, an interesting interview. I only have a handful of recordings by them, as unfortunately the repertoire they record usually doesn't match my taste, but those are really among the best classical recordings from a technical point of view I've ever heard (especially the Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances. Many interesting insights on microphone placement etc. It's a reissue of a 1983 interview, Soni hope his opinion on digital would be different today. esldude
Love this quote from KJ. Johnson: Not really. The only reason I can see for doing that is to compensate for the lack of detail in a poor playback system. I don't make recordings to be played on poor systems. This in regard to multi-miking for recordings. Sure beats the idea of recording for use in a car or over earbuds doesn't it. And always keep in mind: Cognitive biases, like seeing optical illusions are a sign of a normally functioning brain. We all have them, it’s nothing to be ashamed about, but it is something that affects our objective evaluation of reality. Link to comment
