jtwrace
Just got this email: eero supporters, It’s hard to believe we announced our company and pre-order just a week ago today. The reception has been nothing short of overwhelming. By noon last Thursday, we had passed $1,000,000 in sales. It wouldn't have happened without all of you. In order to ship to our earliest supporters as soon as possible, we’ve decided to limit our discounted pre-order pricing. The change isn't immediate. Pre-order pricing of $125 for a single eero and $299 for a 3-pack will remain in effect until this Sunday, February 15th, at 11:59pm PST. After that, prices will go up to $199 for a single eero or $499 for a 3-pack. Pre-orders submitted after February 15th at regular pricing will still ship before general availability units — in the order they were received. We're going heads-down to execute on our promise to you, but we'll periodically update you via email and on our blog. Thank you for your support, -Nick W10 NUC i7 (Gen 10) > Roon (Audiolense FIR) > Motu UltraLite mk5 > (4) Hypex NCore NC502MP > JBL M2 Master Reference +4 subs Watch my Podcast https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXMw_bZWBMtRWNJQfTJ38kA/videos Link to comment
Skeptic
Building a relatively inexpensive WiFi mesh network with 802.11ac seems great. I've been thinking about upgrading my 802.11n network for a while now. Even though I'm not in a huge building here, the walls are solid so we need multiple access points for full coverage - and you occasionally get a drop-out in calls or streaming video as devices switch from one AP to the other, which can be frustrating. But I'm not prepared to pay money up-front for an unproven product, especially when they're enticing you with a 40% discount. I'm not sure why people are so prepared to do that these days with unfinished products being "sold" on Kickstarter and similar sites. Regardless, from that Reddit post which JD linked to: Because we have the cloud software orchestrating all of these devices[...] Count me out. I don't want any devices in my home relying on "the cloud" (remember when people couldn't control their thermostats when Nest's servers went down over Xmas in their first year?) and I certainly don't want the devices that all of my network traffic passes through having communication with a central server of any kind. To me, connecting to "the cloud" suggests that someone somewhere is tracking usage patterns and selling that data to advertisers. Perhaps that's not true for Eero, but it is for most "cloud" services. Link to comment
jtwrace
If you read their (Nicks) comments he has said they do not and will not track what you're looking at but only how much Mbit you're using. I'd prefer none but my IP already does it so they can throttle. Jud
Do you know the instant I decided to order? Just now when I clicked the FAQ link that asked "Will your app support Android and iOS?", and the answer read, "Yes, we swing both ways." I'd prefer none but my IP already does it so they can throttle. So they are already tracking data usage. Who knows if/when their terms of service may change.Who knows how long they will be in business and the cloud servers no longer exist. Upon further reading they have said that they will release a OpenWRT based firmware for people that want to avoid their cloud-based services. Of course I would not recommend purchasing a product based on promises like that. I'd wait and see if it actually exists and if it's still worth purchasing if you don't want to use those services. I'm not saying this is going to be a bad product and no-one should buy it. Just be wary of getting caught up in the hype. Link to comment

Jud
Yes, I just purely hate that someone else got ten dollars for getting me $200 off of these. esimms86
Jason's post(#19 in this thread) makes it clear that he would receive some benefit from anyone ordering using his supplied link. My post(#36) just makes it that much closer to 100% transparent(100% would be reached with a statement to the effect that Jason is not an employee or investor in the company with no financial gain received aside from the ten dollar discount - capped at the cost of a single order - for each referral). Do I then have a problem with this? No, because I read up on the product by doing an extensive web search and then, once satisfied with what I read, placed my order. We're all big boys and girls here, after all. Anyway, I owe Jason at least ten dollars(figuratively, emotionally) for turning me to Sonare Coeli for the purchase of my Auralic Aries and for his posts on this forum which have proven to be equivalent to free Aries tech support. Skeptic
Yes, I just purely hate that someone else got ten dollars for getting me $200 off of these. What I hate is that someone is pushing an untested product from an unknown company in an attempt to get their own purchase for free under the guise of "if you pre-order now you'll save $200".Practically every second post on this page is a response from jwtrace to push this higher on the list of forum threads or remind people to buy it now. (and it's $20 rather than $10 according to the eero website) I certainly hope that it will be a great device which does everything they promise and works flawlessly, but the last few years of Kickstarter projects (and similar models on other sites) with hundreds, if not thousands, of companies taking people's money and then not delivering on the final product, has left me more than a little cynical at this point. Even companies which previously had a good reputation and raised millions of dollars based on that, have failed to deliver on their Kickstarter projects. And it seems especially insidious that they feel the need to incentivize the people that bought into it, to convince their friends (or random people on forums) to also drop $300 on a pre-order. EdmontonCanuck
Mine are set up and working - well. I'm jealous. My pre-order is indefinitely delayed because I live in Canada, and there is apparently some issues with getting Industry Canada approval for the devices. I have to hand it to the folks at Eero though, they graciously fully refunded my money, and promised to ship my 3-pack to me anyway once the approval comes through. So while I do have to wait, I will eventually enjoy the mesh-WiFi networking at zero cost to me. Priaptor
Better than what you previously used? I was using the Airport Express Extreme with airport express extenders and EERO gives better throughput throughout the covered range of the three EEROs. I will say, the antenna could have been stronger as I will need to add a couple of more to cover my house fully, but even on the fringe of my current EERO network I am getting throughput equal to what i was getting with an Express extender Link to comment
