This I doubt -

I doubt there will ever prove to be an audible phenomenon that requires an explanation based on quantum theory.

Given your disdain for all things "audiophoolry", this implies you think quantum theory is bunk. And here I was thinking you were a science advocate.

I doubt we will ever put the genie back in the bottle. I doubt we will rid the hobby of the snake oil and the snake charmers.

And always keep in mind: Cognitive biases, like seeing optical illusions are a sign of a normally functioning brain. We all have them, it’s nothing to be ashamed about, but it is something that affects our objective evaluation of reality.

Huh?

exactly

I doubt people hear even half of the differences they report as audible.

I doubt they can identify even 10% of those audible differences in a controlled, non sighted test.

Congratulation soon you will be the first insulted in this thread.

Since I am surely not asking for insults I want to add that the assertions above include my own hearing and experience. Everytime I change something in my system I think I hear differences. Especially if it's a nice component. Almost everytime they vanish as soon as I try a more formal test. And nothing fancy, mostly I just go out of the room and ask my wife or a neighbor to change a cable or so. And I usually try with my eyes closed.

as the laws of physics would have to be broken for them to hear a difference, why do you think they would be able to identify 10 %.

I used 10% was just as a placeholder for 'low percentage'. Never made or saw any stats or studies like that.

As about those broken laws of physics I am pretty sure there are people who can also 'hear' the laws cracking. Cable break-in anyone? I find that thread scary.

- I doubt people will cease overemphasizing ultrasonics as important regarding hi res.

- I doubt people will place sufficient emphasis on quality of recording and mastering vs. resolution.

- I doubt either of these principles will keep me from buying the successively higher-resolution Beatles collections the minute they make it to Pono (when/if that happens). :)

- I doubt that people will stop seeing expression of other points of view as attacks on their own.

- I doubt (though hope I'm wrong) that people find a healthy exchange of views more enjoyable than some sort of orthodoxy.
