The nut they need to crack is finding ways to generate ancillary revenue from Beats subscribers. Sure $10/month sounds great, unlesss $10 is only a portion of what that person was spending in the iTunes store each month.

Yep. Think cable tv providers. And pay per view, and on demand, etc. cable tv providers have dealt with some of these issues already and have found a number of ways for reoccurring revenue using rentals and not ownership. They will find a way.
