jtm
Today the Remastered versions of Led Zeppelin IV and Houses of the Holy were released on CD, but I can nowhere find the HiRes releases. Checked highresaudio.com (germany), Qobuz (france & germany), hdtracks (us & germany), prostudiomasters ... so far nothing ...! Link to comment
joelha
In the U.S. we're told 10/28 is the release date. Do you have or have you heard the CD's? If so, how do they sound? Joel Link to comment

firedog
Sorry for my ignorance, but does this mean the 1994 CD is more desirable from a DR Peak standpoint? I still want to hear the special edition bonus discs, yet if these are not much of a sonic upgrade... that would be a bummer indeed. Well first of all we weren't told if the 2014 DR quoted above is the hi-res or the 2014 CD. They don't have to have the same DR, depends how they did the mastering. The first three LZ hi-res downloads were similarly volume compressed - that is, light to moderate VC compared to earlier reissues. They all sounded fine to me in spite of that. I'm guessing these will be the same and will be superior to earlier digital versions, as LZ hi-res 1-3 were. firedog
Downgrade of between 1-3 DR numbers per song, compared to my CD. I'd prefer they didn't reduce a song by 3pts of DR, but the new CD sounds good to me. I plan on buying the hi-res download of this one when it gets to HDT or ProStudioMasters (they'll give discounts) and I'll post that DR log also. I'm betting it will be the same as the 2014 CD. foobar2000 1.3.2 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.0 log date: 2014-10-26 15:30:23 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Analyzed: Led Zeppelin / Houses of the Holy [CD1 2014 Deluxe Edition] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DR Peak RMS Duration Track -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DR10 -0.66 dB -11.84 dB 5:30 01-The Song Remains the Same DR11 -0.06 dB -15.28 dB 7:39 02-The Rain Song DR10 -0.34 dB -14.22 dB 4:51 03-Over the Hills and Far Away DR10 -0.59 dB -12.48 dB 3:18 04-The Crunge DR10 -0.20 dB -11.04 dB 3:43 05-Dancing Days DR11 -0.20 dB -12.34 dB 4:23 06-D’yer Mak’er DR10 -0.13 dB -14.60 dB 7:03 07-No Quarter DR10 -0.25 dB -12.52 dB 4:34 08-The Ocean -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Number of tracks: 8 Official DR value: DR10 Samplerate: 44100 Hz Channels: 2 Bits per sample: 16 Bitrate: 973 kbps Codec: FLAC ================================================================================ My CD version: foobar2000 1.1.7 / Dynamic Range Meter 1.1.0 log date: 2013-02-01 22:01:40 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Analyzed: Led Zeppelin / Houses Of The Holy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DR Peak RMS Duration Track -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DR11 -1.65 dB -14.20 dB 5:30 01-The Song Remains The Same DR14 -1.00 dB -19.50 dB 7:39 02-The Rain Song DR13 -1.00 dB -17.96 dB 4:48 03-Over The Hills And Far Away DR12 -0.83 dB -15.80 dB 3:16 04-The Crunge DR12 -0.66 dB -14.19 dB 3:44 05-Dancing Days DR13 -0.97 dB -16.13 dB 4:23 06-D'Yer Mak'er DR12 -0.92 dB -18.02 dB 7:01 07-No Quarter DR11 -0.82 dB -14.83 dB 4:30 08-The Ocean -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Number of tracks: 8 Official DR value: DR12 Samplerate: 44100 Hz Channels: 2 Bits per sample: 16 Bitrate: 895 kbps Codec: FLAC =============== Main listening (small home office): Main setup: Surge protector +>Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Strip/Isolation>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three (on their own electric circuit) >GIK Room Treatments. For me, there is a place in my library for both the newly mastered versions, which are well done, and the original CD versions. As you may know, the original LZ I, II, and III CD's were mastered by forum member Barry Diamant--thanks, Barry! It's fun to have and listen to both versions, and be able to compare. Milt99
I interleaved the previous cd versions I had song by song, original, boxset and the 24/96. The 24/96 was clearly preferable to me on my system. Nothing revelatory but clearly "better" in several aspects including clarity and separation. Edit: why are forum software spellcheckers so lame? The downloads are available on hiresaudio but not for North Americans. Link to comment
firedog
They are available now at HDT Germany and Qobuz, but pricey, especially at the German site. In a few days they should be available at US download sites for less money.
