Jud
I have a thought but no time - will write later tonight. ...or, as it happens, the next day. So Yuri, this is my idea, which I think could be fun and educational, but may be a lot of work for you. You could make three builds as public demos, and simply call them A, B, and C. One would be the same as the current AuI; one the intermediate option; and one full band. Don't identify which is which. (Of course it will be easy to tell if anyone wants to measure.) Whoever wants to play along would tell you what DAC they have; what the original and upsampled resolutions were of a couple of tracks they listened to, at least one from 44.1x resolutions and one from 48x; which build they preferred; and how strong the preference was (whether they liked one much better or all were close). That is the general outline. What do you think - interesting, or too much work? One never knows, do one? - Fats Waller The fairest thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. - Einstein Computer, Audirvana -> optical Ethernet to Fitlet3 -> Fibbr Alpha Optical USB -> iFi NEO iDSD DAC -> Apollon Audio 1ET400A Mini (Purifi based) -> Vandersteen 3A Signature. james45974
I was reading about the difference between a DS and ladder DAC at MSB and if I am not mistaken they are proposing that upsampling is not as important for a ladder DAC as it is for a DS, can anyone offer any discussion on this? audiventory
Sense of upsampling defined by analog filter of DAC. The analog filter is essential part of any type of DAC. During upsampling performed digital filtration. It eliminate part of aliases of digital-analog conversion in low frequency range. Digital filter better than analog usually. Upsampling fit digital signal to available for us analog filter. Analog filter suppress aliases at higher frequencies range. In range where it have better suppressing level. Quality of the analog filter depend on certain implementation. Delta sigma modulator+analog filter will work better, if feed the modulator by upsampled and properly (digital) filtered signal. Due less aliases will placed in lower part of spectrum where analog filter is not so good. SwissBear
Hi everyone, I bought a licence of Aul ConverteR to upsample to 24/192 my music library which is sitting on a Mac. I have found the software less polished than expected in the following fields : - the interface is a little bit rough and the translation into English not refined at all - even if you do not dedicate all the processors you have on the Mac (I am using an old hexa-processors, which gives me 24 cores, of which I am using only 16 dedicated to the upsampling), the interface is not responsive while working, which prevents from easily interrupting the process for instance... - the software fails to preserve the integrity of metadata of AIFF files on the mac ; especially, the file image is scrapped :-( - when going through a directory which includes other files, like a PDF file (electronic leaflet of the CD) or a JPEG file (album artwork), we could expect the application to copy those files to the destination directory to produce a complete upsampled image of the source ; this is not the case - the directory output seems buggy, which makes the destination directory replicate the information of the directory name ('/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/xxx/Music/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/xxx/Music/XLD/....' Now a few questions about the optimal settings : - is it useful to select the no-pre-ringing digital signal processing - what are the best settings which would apply to an entire music library, without having to dig into each directory to retrieve the sampling information and adapt the settings to each CD or purchased electronic music. Thanks in advance. Link to comment
