Actually it can be argued it is. Unless you are running everything on one device a more modular programme so you can run the control on one device; server side on another and the player (renderer) is either a third machine or a UPnP streamer would be more streamlined.

 

I can imagine a lot of people being interested in the full J.River interface on a 18" Dell or Sony table; the server side on a machine with multiple spinning drives akin to a NAS and then the separate player.

 

At the moment each device needs a full version of JRMC. And many people suggest running the minimum possible on a device for best SQ (though J.River themselves doesn't necessarily subscribe to that school).

It's possible that JRiver have at least considered breaking JRMC into its constiuent parts, according to Chris Connaker, see this post (#894):
