Could'nt the sonic improvement in the extra 8 bits be worth $27? I am writing this half-seriously. I recently purchased the recent SHM SACDs of Tchaikovsky's last 3 symphonies by Mravinsky with DG, and they are vastly superior to the CDs, so much that in my view the large price gap is justified.

I doubt it. Old live acoustic recordings. Maybe I should check it with fbits.

It checks out. All the files are at least consistent with being 24 bit (Julf reminds me that this is not proof, but at least it is consistent.)
