Leroy Bad
I bought the first Santana album in 96/24 that was released 2 weeks ago. Sounds very good, but I heard no difference from the original 1990 CD on CBS/Columbia. Which already sound excellent. I've never heard Santana III but it also looks like the original program in high resolution. Link to comment
rwwjr44
Santana (ST) sounds IMHO better than any other version I've heard. Not huge differences, but noticeable nonetheless. It is still "laid back" but I now hear more details in each instrument. The organ often sounds strident but that is the only negative I noticed during my initial listen. Afterward, I listened to a SACD rip of Abraxas which (like the LP) is very much better than Santana. Tonight I'll listen to III and post my impressions within a few days. rwwjr44
I listened to III last night. I was interrupted a few times so these are first impressions only. High energy notes seem a bit harsh perhaps distorted, otherwise SQ is better than Santana but not nearly as good as my SACD rip of Abraxas. Overall, the same types of improvements I noted in post #3 hold true.
