Can you show which of the 3 possible settings this applies to ?

I assume the last possibility, which is to enable the fixed volume setting.

(In my case the preamp is doing volume control).

There are many ways to achieve on similar results. In any case, your fixed or startup default value needs to fit into configured range.

Setting fixed volume removes possibility of inadvertently changing it from the default.

Hi all. I've created a remote control solution for HQPlayer called HQPWV (HQPlayer Web Viewer). It's a local webserver which allows you to control HQPlayer from any device on your local network using a browser.

I've not had anyone beyond myself to test it yet, so if anyone tries it out, I would appreciate any feedback, so feel free to message me. I should probably post a dedicated thread for it as well.

Miska himself provides a software that does this already HQPlayer4Client, and there is HQPD that works on mobile devices.

I need help.

I run Desktop 4 on an Intel NUC8i5, using the recommended Ubuntu 18.04. All my music files reside on SSDs in the computer, no NAA.

Output is via USB to a Mytek Brooklyn DAC.

I was listening happily when suddenly, on starting a new album, all I got was terrible noise. I then noticed that the display on the DAC showed that the input signal strength was maxxed out.

After many trials, I have found that this happens whenever I click Play a second time, either in starting a new album or restarting the current album after a stop or the end.

I can jump to another track while the album is still playing with no problem. Doesn't matter if I use Client or not. Closing down HQPlayer and then restarting it doesn't help. The only way is to close down the system and start it again, so I can play only  one album per computer session.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have changed filters, swapped the USB cable and updated from version 4.12.0 to 4.12.2. I still get the same problem.

Miska, I'm still trying to get my input / output setup working reliably in HQPlayer.  I've switched the input side (Motu M4) to use ASIO and the output side (Gustard X16) to use Wasapi.

It plays for a few seconds and then stops.  This is the last part of the log:

Any thoughts?  Do I need to play with the buffer settings within HQplayer and / or the hardware directly?

Thanks!

I apologize if this was asked, but I did a quick search and couldn't seem to find an answer.  I purchased a Mac Mini M1, and I am using HQP 4.12.2 and usb connected to a Holo May running firmware 3012.  It worked fine on the Windows 10 version at 1.536mhz, but it seems to be having problems on the Mac Mini M1.  I get distortion above 705kHz.

Is there a setting that I have set wrong?

I'm also running a Mac mini M1 16gb as a headless unit and it runs at 32/768 with ease (that being the max for the TT2). Just to check, do you have Multicore DSP selected in settings? I would get stutter on anything above 705 when this wasn't selected.

1.536 is not supported by Mac OS as a direct connection. You need to use a NAA with Intel USB for it to work.

There are pages of recent discussion about this on the site. The two most often mentioned devices are an UpBoard device that Jussi recommends or the Fitlet device that others find works well. Both will require you to use Jussi's custom image for the NAA. Just search the site for NAA and you should get all the info.

So I have a headless mac mini as my music/video server in the basement. I then use a headless $150 AWOW NJ41S Intel fanless PC stick as a bridge, booted up with an NAA image on USB stick. It supports 1.536 out to the Holo May without issue. https://www.amazon.com/AWOW-Celeron-Windows-Computer-Fanless/dp/B086W22CY9. Given it's simplicity, it's very low noise/low power, and the nice thing is that it has a DC barrel connector so I can use a 5V Linear Power Supply with it. Not sure there would be any sonic improvement going to an OpticalRendu as per above (even if it did support 1.536) - the only thing that would be different is possible noise on the USB connection but my thinking is that by using the simplest, lowest power device necessary, along with an LPS, that should be completely mitigated. Versus a complex isolation via fibre etc - and I question whether the noise on the USB output of a Sonore would be as low as the noise on a simple low-power pc stick. Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest.

so how is the fanless pc stick connected to the network, only wifi?  Do you use the onboard Windows an the Holo ASIO driver or did you boot it up with Jussi's image.  Not sure what you meant by NAA imaged bridge.  Thx

P.S.  Yes, the fitlet2 is Intel.  I have one on order with a fiber connection.  Will report back.

Right, sorry, I do use an ethernet to USB-C dongle. There are other pc sticks with RJ45's built in but I liked the fact that I could plug an LPS into the 5V DC barrel input. And yes, I boot it up with the NAA image on a USB stick. (change boot order in bios).

That's interesting that you can get a fitlet with fibre. Look forward to hearing about that.

No. I mentioned in a post just before that that I have a TT2 which has a 32/768 max.

Using Poly-Sinc-Gauss-xla LNS15 PCM the Mac mini M1 seems to have a lot of headroom... it's mostly reporting 60% idle.

My setup is all fibre network with the OpticalRendu + Uptone JS-2 as the NAA - TQ SD USB > TT2 + JS-2 - TQ US XLR > Chord Etude > PMC 25.22 & Empyrean.

Ok thanks for clarifying. I have been testing an M1 and yes gauss-xla up to 768 is ok but 1.536 basically requires 2x cpu per core and it looks like it just doesn't have quite enough power to avoid dropouts. But this is just with null output benchmarks so far as I am in a different location right now, and I haven't tested against an NAA endpoint + DAC.

I’ve done 1.536 MHz from a signature Rendu SE optical to a Denafrips Terminator.

fit2 pc is intel.

If I remember correctly, you did need to use Jussi's custom NAA image to make it work on the Rendu. That is going to be a bridge too far for a lot of folks as it requires burning a new card for the Rendu.

No. Stock software.

Keep in mind the Denafrips at 32fs is different than the Holo's requirements.  The May needs an Intel USB chip, Denafrips doesn't.  Not sure this is an obstacle with things like the Rendus or not.

Yes. Looks like the Holo May firmware only really does 1.536 with Intel USB chipsets. I had a (Roon) lite version of the opticalRendu and it would only go to 768 to the May (even with 30.12 firmware). Got rid of it because it didn't do 1.536 nor support NAA.

Also have an Allo USBridge + Shanti that is limited to 768 (but does support NAA of course). So decided to try 1.536 output via the fanless PC stick knowing it was cheap and could be repurposed. Haven't really discerned any differences in SQ due to hardware alone, but was focussed on 1.536 upsampling and admittedly have not done a lot of apples-to-apples comparisons at 768. (i.e. the only possibility being that Allo USBridge @ 768 sounds cleaner than PC stick @ 1.536 due to usb noise/gremlins).

That said, I am really intrigued about a fitlet2 with optical card - possibly a Sonore OpticalRendu that can do 1.536 and is $1000 cheaper :)  Did you order directly from fit-iot.com or fitpc.com reseller?
