The Computer Audiophile
I may lose my title of The Computer Audiophile on this one, but I can't figure out what's going on. HQPlayer is resampling everything to PCM even though I have SDM selected. Anyone see something in this config that looks wrong? Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment

I used to have a micro rendu and I like this better: 1) has ethernet and wifi (you can only use one, i.e., you don't have to activate wifi); 2) it also has a USB in for direct connection to USB sources; 3) It's larger and heavier (case milled from a block of aluminum) so is more stable, looks nicer, and has built in heat dissipation so it stays cool. In my mind that makes it worth the additional cost. YMMV. Here we go with that streamer nomenclature issue again! Of course I know what it does. My point is that you get to do either one or the other with it, stream or use as Roon or NAA endpoint. You can’t use it for both at the same time! https://audiophilestyle.com/profile/21384-solstice380/?tab=field_core_pfield_3 Link to comment

Luca72c
If you have no success using HQP NAA image, you can try Gentooplayer. I use it on my NAA and never had a problem with it, very efficient and easy to setup without linux knowledge, via web iterface. Very good sounding too and allowing RT kernel choice and RAM disk setup if you want. Latest versions require registration via email, but that's easy too. Link to comment
Rune
or just try Ropiee XL which I did when the HQP NAA image did not work for me. Link to comment

Did you try various multicore DSP and/or Ryzen master cores management settings? On paper, 5950x should have plenty of single core power for the job... OC should not be needed Link to comment

Make sure "Multicore DSP" is grayed, not checked, and even if you have a CUDA GPU installed, fully uncheck CUDA offload and see how you do then. I can say that ASDM7EC at 256/48 is very much my "wall" at the moment. Overclocked 6700k at 4.5Ghz and now an i9900KF at 5.1Ghz can do no more than 7EC @ 256/48 on 24/192 PCM files (all the way down to Redbook) using at most Sinc-M, or any of the -2s filters. Sinc-L will drop out periodically. But beyond Sinc-L I can do most any filter on a CPU that would pass a single thread PassMark rating right about where the 5950x would land. It's just that the power required for anything further is pretty immense. I can do the ASDM7 +512fs and DSD1024/48 using just about any filter, but to my ears, the 7EC at 256 is better. Just sort of passing along the results of my experiments I've been doing, and sort of wrapped up last night. I don't know that there's much out there that will out single-thread a 9900KF at 5.1Ghz, and that's the type of power required for the EC modulators. Fully-checked "Multicore DSP" and in some cases, CUDA Offload, can decrease performance in my rig, but the CUDA bit is purely anecdotal for now. It's at least worth a shot though. For reference, I'm only using a Geforce 1030 GPU so it is NOT a powerhouse by any stretch, and it's brand new for this rig because my KF CPU has no integrated GPU. Edit - and to clarify, I am overclocked, but simply using the built-in OC tools ("AI Overclock") on my Asus motherboard. RAM is only clocked at 2133 as well. Without an OC, so 3.6Ghz, my 9900KF does not perform to the level of my 6700k, with or without OC (he says, a little bit angrily). I'm also running a stripped down version of W10. I tried all the same things above on UbuntuStudio 20.04 and found that there is no difference sonically, and no difference in performance, on my rig, between the operating systems. Win is just easier to run in my broader LAN. And so concludes this morning's alphabet soup. k6davis, blue2 and jamesg11 3 Ryzen 3900x Roon Core PC -> Intel i9900k HQPlayer W10 machine -> iFi Zen Stream NAA Holo May KTE, Benchmark LA4 preamp SMC Audio upgraded DNA-125 Amp Dynaudio Confidence C2 Platinum speakers Vinyl rig - Schiit Sol, Nagaoka MP-500, Mod Squad PhonoDrive phono stage Link to comment
