Definately confirmed working in Windows, DAC 8 DSD display confirming DSD512.

I downloaded the driver today, so don't know how it compares with older versions.  Windows Home 10 (all latest updates installed).  Perhaps you're thinking about the DSD 128 limitation under Linux?

I was thinking with Windows 10, not Linux...

Is that a special custom driver specific for T+A?

Does WASAPI/DSD512 sound better than ASIO/DSD512?

Can anyone explain the following  problem i am having with PCM. It happens on Hqplayer 3 and 4.

When i Select  PCM   Filter Sinc-m  Shaper NS9 it take 18 seconds for the song to start playing.

When i Select SDM    FIlter Sinc-m Shaper ASDM7EC the song starts playing within a second.

The two performance graphs below show the system usage. With PCM there is hardly anything going on.

At 88.2k PCM output rate you have long inherent delay due to the filter. You can compare the delay to ratio between 88.2k and 5.6M.

So I am conused with the ASIO driver behaviour... maybe this is why I have been having problems in Linux?  Another member here told me that T+A DAC 8 DSD was natively supported in Gentoo Player/Audiolinux etc... (I couldn't get output at 64, 128 or higher and am unsure if 512 works without updating the firmware anyway).

With DAC8 DSD you need to install custom firmware to the USB interface to gain anything above DSD128 on Linux,

On Windows, I'm using DAC8 DSD with original firmware and can do DSD256 and DSD512 without problems through ASIO. Just check that you have High Performance or Ultimate Performance power profile selected in Windows Control Panel / Power settings.

Thanks, so because of the long inherent delay due to the filter, there is no way to speed it up, even with more hardware.

Does your Lumin appear as a CoreAudio device in macOS Audio MIDI Settings? NAA lists audio devices of it's host OS.

But I would say for this to work you would skip the RasPi4  and Lumin should directly implement NAA protocol instead of going through intermediate point.

Only intermediate network-to-network NAA case I know is working is combination of NAA and RAVENNA / AES67 / Dante. Another case should be AVB, but not really tested. There the most useful use case is to bridge from NAA over WiFi to RAVENNA/AES67/Dante over ethernet. Since those other protocols don't really support WiFi while NAA works fine over WiFi.

Yes it does.

Lumin does not support NAA protocol at the moment, which is why I am using the Raspberry Pi 4 as an intermediate point.

If this current chain of hardware/software will not work do you know of any other ways in which I could set this up? Thanks a bunch for your help.

Have you selected the TASCAM as input device? And then followed instructions here

https://www.signalyst.com/quickstart.html

under heading "Playing from source selection"?

Yes.  I have tried everything.  I tried using default and soundflower too.  It has to be a permission issue with Coreaudio or something.  The TASCAM does show up as a device in the pull down menu for both backend and input.  Its so frustrating. This machine is too old to move to Big Sur, so I will keep working on things in Catalina as I think of them. I don't get why the RME would work so easily but this TASCAM won't.

Would you share, please?

Okay so you will need some kind of virtual cable installed alongwith your HQP. Then you will need a SSH host (mac/linux) with netcat installed on it. On linux you can do 'apt install netcat' or on a mac 'brew install netcat'

Place below lines in a file (let's say hqp.sh) on your server (say in user home directory). Make sure that you make it executable (chmod +x hqp.sh)

host='10.10.10.161'
echo '...<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><Stop />' | nc -vvv -n $host 4321
echo '...<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><PlaylistClear />' | nc -vvv -n $host 4321
echo '...<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><PlaylistAdd uri="audio:VB-Cable/44100/2" queued="0" />' | nc -vvv -n $host 4321
echo '...<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><Play />' | nc -vvv -n $host 4321

Before you save this file on your server just ENSURE that:

1) you have changed the 'host' value to your HQP player IP address

2) in line#4 you have changed "VB-Cable" string with your audio device name.

Once done - follow instructions as per below page in IOS automation app.

Please see

under heading "HQPlayer Control" at the end of the page.

I could not find all those XML commands in source code - where can i get all those commands in XML format so that i can automate functions of HQP - if i could automate the switching filtering that would be awsome.

Additionally i notice a lag (~1sec) when playing audio from local virtual cables - is could be the reason for that?

You are welcome. I remembered seeing posts from others a while back having the same problem with the ST i5 but have not seen that issue recently. I thought Andrew had solved that problem. I am sure he can fix it for you.

Andrew said he has never seen any problems with Roon + HQPlayer on an SonicTransporter. He has no fix. So I guess if I want HQPlayer on a SonicTransporter, I would have to upgrade from i5 to the i9. Which is disappointing since I bought the i5 specifically to run these programs.

SonicTransporter i9 > EtherRegen (optical out) > LUMIN P1 > LUMIN Amp > YG Kipod Signature Passive speakers.

Sorry to hear that. I guess the problems I read about were people with ST i9 machines. It was back when the ST i9 was introduced. I don't remember the specific model being mentioned back then. Here is another possible solution. Keep the ST i5 and run Roon only on that and put HQP on another separate machine and just have Roon send to that machine. I will say that getting Roon and HQP to run happily on one machine is not always easy or stable. I have both running on a i5 8400/ASUS Z370I machine and I have have managed to get them to run together but it did take a bunch of experimenting with the BIOS and Win 10 settings. I now can do DSD 256 EC as long as I stay with 2s filters. If I were to start over now I would not try to get them to run together on one machine. I would buy an ST i5 for Roon and get a dedicated headless HQP machine for the up-sampling. To make it fool proof, I would just run one of Jussi's HQP OS images and be done with it. With Windows or Apple for that matter there are just too many extraneous things going on that you just can't control for it to ever be really stable. With Windows it is phoning home more than ET and much of it is beyond our control. Anyhow, sorry I gave you a wrong turn but you do have options.

Hi Jussi,

I am running embedded on a 6700k using Euphony os.

Last week we had a heath wave in western Europe so I turned the computer off to save it some stress while I wasn't listening to music much anyway.

Now the heath is gone and I want to listen again so I turned the computer on....but I get an error from HQP see log below. Any idea what's happening?

Thanks

Steven

My trial with roon and audirvana ended.

All I do is stream Tidal with any of them to discover new tracks.

I'm trying out Jriver now and then will decide which ware to keep.

I've found a manual on how to get jriver to hqplayer.

But how exactly do I use hqplayer the same way I used it with roon, in the sense that I route hqplayer to play through jriver and do its magic, sort of how it's behavior with roon works.

Please help.

I’m not following you. HQPlayer doesn’t play through anything. It send audio to devices directly. Apps such as Roon can send audio to HQP for processing though.

CheapSplurge,

The integration of Roon (front end) and HQPlayer (back end) is a supported one by both Roon and HQP.  The use of JRiver as a front end to HQPlayer is a user-created integration (thanks Geoffrey Armstrong :)) that should not be construed as equivalent.  It has great features, but should be used by someone who knows their way around JRiver.

OK understood. So I guess I can't do it relatively easily? Just want to try it out.

I love hqplayer and it working with a player I want is mandatory, if jriver can't do it, I guess roon may be it.

But I truly do like jriver and learning more about it.

I like using the upnp with it.

Where can I make hqplayer do its magic while playing through jriver?  Throw me a bone plz?

What settings do I need to have in roon, to best work for hqplayer?

I have a feeling something isn't right on my part

I have to crack the volume way loud on my TT2 when using roon/hqplayer

Vs say a local player like jriver without hqplayer

Any of these should I change for best fidelity when associating roon with hqplayer? Finally getting the hang of the filters and stuff in HQplayer, but I want to make sure roon settings are optimal.

Additionally where can I learn what each filter ect does in hqp?

If you are using a preamp or DAC for volume control, then you should have HQP volume settings (Settings panel) at -3 Max and -60 Min. Then make sure the HQP volume knob is turned all the way up (clockwise) which would be -3 if using the above settings.

You should not need to adjust volume in Roon settings.

Another option is to have HQP control volume which lots of people here have found to be preferable but you need to be careful as with any software control. Roon can adjust the HQP volume which works great.

I really appreciate your help, I'd like my Hugo tt2 to handle volume

Here is what I did, recommend anything else?
