Keep eye on the "Limited" counter in main window/client, it should stay at 0 at all times. Signalyst - Developer of HQPlayer Pulse & Fidelity - Software Defined Amplifiers Link to comment

In my opinion, 4 is not remotely worth the price compared to 3. The only thing I can guess is that Jussi is following Roon down the pricing rabbit hole, focusing on a market who is willing to pay $750 (or more if they can’t afford the Roon lifetime license) for their computer based audio playback software. Roon does sound mediocre on its own, so I guess why not try to cash in on the Roon pricing wake? Without Roon, HQP is just a great sound engine with a extremely rudimentary GUI and library management system for which the new price, to me, makes zero sense. And Jussi has done away with the discounts HQP resellers used to be able to offer. I’m not intending to criticize Jussi, he has a right to run his business as he wishes. Just expressing that I’ve auditioned 4 and find no compelling reason to upgrade from 3 at his new price. I do own a DirectStream Junior DAC which does dsd upsampling internally, so I’m less dependent on software like HQP to achieve great sound. YMMV. DirectStream Junior is quite a bit more expensive than my software. And I can bet PS Audio has not spent 20+ man years developing it... You can calculate yourself what you would say if someone asks you to work 20 years on something. I don't think I will ever get the upfront investment back, but at least the price should cover the running costs. You know, this kind of playback software is not mass-market stuff... Of course one can keep using 3 as long as they wish. matthias, Jud and AnotherSpin 1 1 1 Signalyst - Developer of HQPlayer Pulse & Fidelity - Software Defined Amplifiers Link to comment

battlecry
Jussi, are there changes to the hqp-control commands for HQPlayer Desktop 4? I use php commands to change the filters, noise shaping, skip, pause, play etc. in version 3 and I'd like to continue to do so with version 4. Link to comment

Maybe that virtual driver is broken is some other way... Maybe they didn't want to bother creating DLL/DPLL to generate proper virtual sample clock for the audio and thus don't support event driven WASAPI mode at all. But it should still work in shared mode from Windows audio engine which runs it's own clock like CoreAudio on macOS... chriss0212
Hi Miska For playing Loopback wit higher sample rates I changed all sample rate in the system and it works. But a bit strange: to play for e.g. 88.2 I need to choose 44.1 in the drop down... Is this normal? Greetings Christian Link to comment

I got a very good suport from Miska, since at first it only went well with DSD 256. DSD 512 requires cores at a high speed. Really, really nice setup! Question for you: Can you do DSD 512 with high res pcm source files? I find that cpu load goes up considerably when FLAC source is 24 / 96 or 24 / 192 versus Redbook 16 / 44.1 kHz. Is that inevitable or is there a way to mitigate it with settings? Jussi, please weigh in if possible. Appreciated! This increases my CPU load by about 10% to around 70%. Fortunately, I can continue to drive low latencies in USB buffer. LatencyMon tool indicates that my system can provide low latencies for real-time audio. Until then it was a long way. In combination with Roon it's my best audio setup so far. fred_com
I've updated to 4.0.2 and suddenly there was no sound. DAC showed that it locked onto signal correctly, but there was silence. It seems that Jussi has fixed some bug with the volume control (or introduced new one ). Because it was working fine for me with the 60\0 volume in settings. But the volume did not work anyway for the DSD512 conversion. Thanks to @StreamFidelity post, I've fixed the silence by setting min\max volume to 0\0. Link to comment

I use php commands to change the filters, noise shaping, skip, pause, play etc. in version 3 and I'd like to continue to do so with version 4. Yes, some of the output has changed and some other changes have been made. So now the new version is called hqp-control2 both to avoid conflict on installations where both v3 and v4 are installed, and also to avoid script breakage due to the changes. You need to leave about 3 dB of headroom for inter-sample overs! I use -6/0 setting so -3 position is volume knob pointing up, allowing easy adjustment of few dB's up or down if needed. (for some material -3 dB is not enough) fred_com 1 Signalyst - Developer of HQPlayer Pulse & Fidelity - Software Defined Amplifiers Link to comment

But you can also deal with this by selecting different filter for 1x rates and Nx rates (>= 50 kHz). Signalyst - Developer of HQPlayer Pulse & Fidelity - Software Defined Amplifiers Link to comment

You must have selected 88.2 in the dropdown at some point, which caused it to appear in the playlist. Apparently, you subsequently selected 44.1 in the dropdown, but HQP ignored the second selection. Sometimes HQP ignores the dropdown selection unless you subsequently press the Return key. Back to 3?) @Le Concombre Masqué ? I trashed 4.01 and won’t bother compare .01 & .02 but dare say I think they belong. For better or worse 3 and 4.02 (referred to as 4 next) sound different. So much so that a favorite filter in 3 might become the worst or so in 4. I did my early comparison with my fav in 3, ext2, and I just can’t stand it anymore since 4 reveals it as smearing and blurring (IMO and configuration*, as all other statements). I compared 3 and 4.02 with different filters and my preference varied based on content and filter. Short-lp and mqa-lp shone with 4, xtr-2s sounded better in 3 than in 4 on my test tracks. Once I found out that I could be happy in a future with 4, provided I stay away from ex fav (ext2), I had the idea to test DSD sources to get rid of the filter influence factor. Jap SHM-SACD of Jarrett’s Standards Live was even more awful with 4 than with 3 but maybe it’s a wrong idea to pick an awful presentation to start with. I haven’t yet a clear definitive winner on other SACDs but often was struck by “a studio sound” repeated from SACD to SACD in 4 : both the wonder of a very pro/monitoring sound and the wondering of it being systematic or not. I’ll quit back and forth testing and will now use 4 for my < to 30 min listening sessions and will find out my feeling, relief or frustration, at the end of the 30 days. Today I don’t feel like paying 200 for the upgrade, would probably out 100 just to stop thinking about it. I wish I had the money to sponsor 4 and back 100% those who do but, within my budget constraints, the priority to buy a new wetsuit etc, I am thinking that I can wait till black Friday, whathaveyou, or a back in the game reseller's message advertising a discount. * Configuration I think we need to be very thorough. Miska hasn’t answered my questions : “why do 3 and 4 sound different? and Am I preferring 3’s SQ for bad reasons?” but maybe will he share insightful opinions besides the fact that my OS is not supported (WS 2012 with PArkControl keeping the i7 3615 QM CPU @2.30 running @ 3+ with no parking of cores)… I tried to respect default as much as I could (IIR/wide) but definitely promote the use of overlap-save, rather than add, when uspsampling DSD 64 to 128. I don’t know about higher rates but in the 64 to 128 case my convolution filters seem to “imprint “much better with Save. I don’t think it’s delirious : when creating filters in RePhase one can see the need for heavier work/iterations to get the job done, especially in the Low End. BTW: CPU/Memory charges are significantly heavier #35/50 (of 8GB) vs 25/32 in that case. With PCM 192 it’s significantly higher too, up to 36/16 rather than 23/13. I see much higher charges published but if Miska thinks “a bad reason” could be computer driven too hard, I invite him to tell. To help cool things down a use a gamers’ board with mechanical fans. Save is not as mandatory with PCM sources and might even be a debatable choice then. I.e. I’m perfectly happy with Add under Pipeline when playing 5.1 PCM content (as Stereo). There has been a recent question about integrators, I definitely recommend the default IIR over CIC with 4. And am even back to it with 3 (in my system CIC is a “thickening” agent). I installed 4.0.2 and this still does not work. ?? Are you getting same errors in the log? Now it even supports WASAPI shared mode as fallback if everything else fails... 5 hours ago, Miska said: 14 hours ago, lucretius said: & 2019/05/09 20:12:03 Play # 2019/05/09 20:12:03 clMainWindow::startPlay(): clHQPlayerEngine::Play(): Transport == NULL When you select input from the list, hit enter after so the URI gets loaded to the playlist below... Now the transport was empty.... Thanks. It works now. But it's not intuitive to have to: Set the audio default (e.g. audio:default/44100/2) and hit enter to put it on the playlist; and Click on the item in the playlist so that it is loaded. Also, regardless of the audio default (URI ?) chosen -- I tried both audio:default/44100/2 and audio:default/96000/2 (see below) -- when 44100/2 was set as default, the display above indicated Format: 44.1k/32/2 --> 11.2896M, regardless of the source stream sent to HQPlayer (I tried 44.1k, 96k, and 192k). The result was similar when I set 96000/2 as the default: the display above indicated Format: 96k/32/2 --> 11.289M, regardless of the source stream sent. mQa is dead! Link to comment

Today I don’t feel like paying 200 for the upgrade, would probably out 100 just to stop thinking about it. lucretius
When I load the client, the library does not load automatically. I have to highlight "localhost" (see below) and hit enter, then the library is loaded. That is annoying. The library should load automatically. Also, how do I change from this view: to this view (?): Thanks. mQa is dead! Link to comment
