Hope this helps - listen before you buy if possible ;)

Yes, I am starting without the graphic card. I also read many threads and so some Miska's results, however, I am not able to grasp how much means good, only that more means better.

For example, if I new my CPU will be at 60% while doing conversion and adding 1050 Ti would offload it by 20% this would make sense.

If, on the other hand, 1050 Ti reduces CPU load from 60% to 55%, then there's not much sense in adding the GPU.

PS My CPU load numbers are randomly picked (just to avoid confusion).

Vinnie Rossi LIO (AVC/Tubestage, AMP Module with built in HPF 100Hz 24dB/octave, DAC 2.0), Harbeth P3ESR, Rythmik F8

Win10 i7-7700 -> Roon -> HQPlayer DSD512- > LIO 100Hz HPF -> Harbeth P3ESR

I was using HQP 3.14 till this am but HQP started shutting down for no reason running dsd, 24/176 files (no upsampling). So I d/ed 3.15 and still got same response on hirez stuff. Puzzled? Running 16/44 no problem.

Update 1: when I change from raw dsd to upsample to 5.644M no problem. Only running raw dsd is a problem. 24/176 seems to be ok with no upsampling.

Update 2: I ran 2 x dsf rate for 15 minutes before HQP stopped. So problem seems to be in DSF.

Has anyone found the latest version 3.15.1 HQplayer sound very weird? Or just me?

The sound is quite digital for me and makes my ear fatigue quickly.

Another obvious difference is that running the same filter and sampling rate needs much less CPU load. Wondering whether it is the reason causing this problem.

I listened last night for about 5 hours so about 6 different CDs and didn't hear anything like that. I'm on Win 10 server and Win 10 NAA. Any possibility it was just a bad time for you to listen? Are you using a NAA or direct connection to DAC? No info in your post.

Hi,

I have direction connection to my DAC. My dac is T+A DAC 8 DSD.

Some of my friends using T+A DAC8 DSD also spot this SQ problem.

Treble is being quite digital compared to the 3.15 version.

I am dealing with slight treble harshness (and sporadic noise) lately too, but not isolated it yet to an HQP version. I run 3.15.1b2 on a tweaked out Win10 server, and currently using my WS2012R1 NAA (NAA version 3.4.something). I am going to update NAA to 3.5 today. Louis, Are you recommending going to 3.15.0 for comparison?

Hey Ted,

Phew... I thought only me felt this harshness.

Yes, 3.15.0 and previous versions are all fine. The 3.15.1 version gives very obvious harshness in general (not only in treble, but the treble part can let you feel the most)

I did compare 3.15.1 and 3.15.0 back and forth several times and can confirm that. I have another three friends who use T+A DAC8 DSD share the same feeling with me.

I'm using USB regen tweak connecting between PC and dac as followed. Don't think it's the usb chain's problem.

PC- Intona - Sbooster Vbus2 - Uptone regen (powered by Uptone LPS-1) - Vbus 2 - T+A DAC8 DSD

I'm also using Fidelizer Pro optimize my Windows 10 pro system.

The harshness is more obvious when upsampling 44.1 PCM files to DSD512 compared to upsampling DSD256 files to DSD512.

Yes, I am starting without the graphic card. I also read many threads and so some Miska's results, however, I am not able to grasp how much means good, only that more means better.

For example, if I new my CPU will be at 60% while doing conversion and adding 1050 Ti would offload it by 20% this would make sense.

Cuda offload is not a straight sub from CPU load.

Also CPU load at 60% this just not going to cut it. Best my experience 40% load will start having issue.

If, on the other hand, 1050 Ti reduces CPU load from 60% to 55%, then there's not much sense in adding the GPU.

Also not all gpu card all the same 1050 just an entertainment lvl to this era.

Or you can tell us your CPU and which load type and up sampling you are looking to achieve.

Hope this help.

What kind of noise ted? I started hearing occasional crackling but I thought it was because of my new Spring DAC.

What's really frustrating is that I lost internet at home. I am in a panera's drinking a latte which I hate. Anyway I have been having intermittent internet before I lost it and I think I may have gotten a bogus download of 3.15.1. Oh well.

More observational data. HQP stops when I change formats. I.e., when I run 24/176 files back to back all is ok. But when I go from 24/176 to 16/44 for example HQPlayer stops.

I copied in RAM disk installation folders of both 3.15.0 and 3.15.1 (no beta) so I could quickly switch. Previously I had feeling that today is not my day to listen to music, somehow I was tired. But after reading few posts from this thread I set up this comparison. 3.15.0 sounds cleanly and comfortingly. I compared these versions back and forth about 5 times and the difference was always audible, always the same. I have to agree with louisxiawei.

I tested 192k to 6.1M poly-sinc-xtr-2s / ASDM7.

Dear Miska having trouble with HQPlayer stopping when I change formats Any ideas or work arounds please?

What do you mean by stopping when you change formats? What settings are you using (main window)? And what are the the two formats that cause stop?

Overall, there is at least one clear case when playback is stopped - when the combination of source format, filter and output format are not compatible.

I mean hqp stops and shuts down. My settings are no filter, no dither for pcm. And right now I do a simple up sample to 2x dsf rate. But I can now run 24/176 but when I put a 16/44 file in my playlist and I try to run it hqp stops and shuts down.

i use auto for all the drop down menus on the hqp GUI.

If the mode is "Auto", then you are not doing PCM upsampling to 2x DSD. But of course it shouldn't crash in this case.

Let me try to be more clear. I run all pcm raw...no upsample, no dither, no nothing. When I run dsf files I had been running upsampling to 5.66 MbHz. I prefer running direct sdm. I am not sure what Hqp version I am Running. How can I easily tell?
