I have been playing with 3.18 and faced a frequent lockup’s .. where Hqplayer freezes or no sound as the counter moves. then 3.18.1 was launched to cut a long story short and to share my experience on this forum 1. Closed Form Fast in filter and over sampling is very tough to play... my 6900k overclocked to 4.2ghz loaded with fast memory and playing Hqplayer from Ramdisk in memory and all loaded albums in a second ram disk on RAM just cannot cut it. Yes I have Convolution engine (mono 32bit 192 kHz wav Giles using REW ) but even without convolution enabled HQPLAYER freezes no sound While the NAA shows and the iDSD micro BL shows ok status it has actually crashed and I need to power cycle the iDSD connection together with the Uptone ISO Regen 2. So I went direct USB without the NAA ... sane result just a bit easier to reset the Isoregen and iDSD After a whole hour of experiments I found the following: 3. I can play Up To “closed form” on both filter and oversampling with Modulator ASDM7 512 fs but not the closed form fast All my drivers on my GTX 970m and PC and Win 10 pro are latest (just uploaded today) 3. My question is : am I doing anything wrong or is the limit for 44.1khz Red book files.. i tried a 96khz 24 bit file Sara Bareilles Brave Enough from HDTRacks ... results are even worst ... I don’t think I even reach the sinc filter and closed form on oversampling!!!! Any one thinks a GTX 1080 card upgrade may help with CUDA Offload? Thx Link to comment
kelvinwsy
Hi I ran into some cases when I shut down as many processes using Process Lasso ~ < 1000/ 40 processes I can barely run Closed Fast setting in filter and oversampling but convolution not enabled in over -add mode Then I tried over-save mode ... Seem to work BUT still touch and go what is the difference in the Convolution Engine between ADD versus SAVE mode??? What seems to be different ??? i also find sensitivity difference in the WAV file exported from REW .. one recent file created In 32bit mono 192khz The closed form fast Will not play the older REW WAV filed in 24bit seem to be ok for Closed Fast why is this so? Number of EQ frequency points is about the same except for the 24bit vs 32 bit Thx Link to comment

I don’t remember the cpu fan speeding up so I don’t think cpu temp was high ??? but the recent experiment I think ( on the filter and oversampling) settings vs Multicore Automode And Convolution Engine Settings is now more relevant to my problem getting closed form fast to work latest experiments and tweaking brings the cpu back down to 22-24% with initialization peak maybe at 40 % thx Link to comment

kelvinwsy
I Agree.. I am also of the opinion that everything matters. The NAA while it does insulate the upstream from the DAC, it suffices to say that the isolation can never be perfect. My personal journey has been gradual upgrading of my HQPlayer i7 6700k PC. Noisy beast ain't it even with a top grade SMPS Corsair AX 760. SQ improvements are all gradual but definite - Not crazy imagination of a sleep deprived Audiophile (Me!!) 1. Filtering - Big fan of Elfidelity - PCie Mobo filters (twin), PC case fan filters (2 units) modded the wiring of this filter and manage to fit it to the CPU fan (PWM signals still direct to Mobo fan header but power and earth filtered thru the filter pcb), DRAM DDR4 filters in 2 RAM slots (2x16gb and 2 Elfidelity DDR4 filters) Sata III filter on my HDD, and on my 120gb SSD for the Win 10 Pro OS. Great Sound- I use Fidelizer Pro 8.1, Process Lasso, stopped as many processes I can in TaskMgr ---- Good SQ through a Quad Core fanless minipc as NAA to Isoregen and iFi iDSD BL to DSD512 upsampling (xtr -2s) 2. So I thought try Win Server 2016 and intel X25-E Sata II SSD with SOTM Sata II filter with Audiophile Optimizer. Went GUI mode first then Core Mode (Definite SQ jump) 3. Added in-line anti-ripple capacitors to my Corsair EPS, ATX 24 pin and PCie cables. 4. SHAAR (Clones Audio USB3.0) PCie Card with 5 V linear psu dedicated supply. 5. Bridged the SHAAR usb3.0 output through a USB3.0 to Ethernet bridging unit with filtered DC power from a Elfidelity 5.32V supply Upcoming a 820Watt Teradak ATX Linear PSU with a Add2Psu card to segregate the GPU from the rest. (I will use the modded Corsair AX760 for the GPU. My long winded (thx for patience in reading the above) is that at each stage the SQ got better and better. The NAA remained the same. Could not open it, Could not mod it but upstream changes and the impact on SQ improvements could be heard progressively and definitively. _ on my shopping list , a new NAA that can run Win Server 2016 - Now that will be another SQ jump! Good listening to all Kelvin Link to comment

Do you use a router/switch in between? Same 20Amp dedicated circuit. But I feed the NAA {Quadcore Intel X5 Z8300 fanless minipc) powered by a Linear PSU fed by AC through a EMF/RFI filter, an Oyaide R0 then through a Furotech power bar. The HQ PC is to the wall socket with its own EMF/RFI filter. SQ seems better as maybe less current restriction to the big current draw for the i7 6700k PC. I take the fibre broad band from the ISP's modem (LPS powered) to an Asus AC68U (LPS powered) then to a LPS power Netgear GS105NA Switch between the HQ PC. and the ASUS (more filtering) All Cat 6e cables with the JS insulation shielding and earth wire treatment The HQ PC is connected from the CLONES Audio SHAAR(PCie) USB 3.0 output to the NAA via Unitek USB 3.0 Dual LAN Gigabit Converter Adapter - This gives a Hard ware bridge between my HQ PC and the NAA. This is powered by a special Elfidelity USB 3.0 ultra low distortion PSU. I get the benefits of the bridging, the linear power for all in line devices, ethernet filtering, additional filtering via the NetGear GS105 and all the shielded and earthed Cat 6e cables. amplifying the benefits of separation of HQ PC from the NAA . Don't know about other CA members, I hear SQ improvements every step of the way through all of these progressive tweaks and mods (was not a lot of money but yes fussy- done a step at a time it wasn't so bad). Point of NAA was to provide isolation, and with shielded cables that doesn't work anymore... No Jussi i took your advice. I swapped out my Ugreen Cat 7 (with the metal RJ-45) for these Cat 6 UTP cables with plastic RJ-45. The shielding is external aluminium foil wrapping with a connecting earth wire to link both ends of this foil shield. It is an External shield NOT connected at all to the RJ45 connectors( a la John Swenson) . Link to comment

I tried it on my 6700k with a GTX970 and it wont even run at DSF512. I tried Closed Form M and it wont run without major stuttering. Can you check with your friend. Seriously doubt his report of success is correct Thanks Link to comment

Cheers, Dave My suggestion is you still need to suppress low level electrical noise from your main Upsampling PC from crossing over to your silent pc I use a netgear gs 105 12v dc linear psu btwn by Hqp PC and the NAA / all cat 6 cables with JSSG mod and earthed to my Fututech powerstrip earth I use a Hqplayer PC/NAA (SOTM ULTRA NEO) setup My i7 6700k PC is heavily modded.. Because then I'd suspect the reason for ASIO driver not switching to DSD mode could be because the Amanero may have been flashed with one of the Linux-compatible firmware versions. Meaning that it won't work correctly with the Windows driver... But overall, I don't think logs tell much more that what you said. If the driver doesn't switch to DSD mode it is sort of black box why it happens. Hi - I am having a similar issue with my new SMSL VM D1 Dac - Connected to my HQPlayer Server USB direct to the VM D1 Dac, DSD 512 appears No Problem 1. When I use the SOTM SM200 Ultra Neo NAA Endpoint, NO DSD appears at all in Native Mode. Only when I ticked DOP, then DSD appears but ONLY up to DSD256. 2 . Using my other Win10 Pro NAA minipc, connected to the VM D1 DAC, the DSD option appears on the Setttings menu BUT again ONLY UP TO DSD256. So I have contacted SMSL Support on the inability of the D1 DAC to happen native DSD on Linux and on Windows DSD 512/ Waiting for an answer. So what does it take an End-user to get Amanero to get full Linux compatibility with DSD 512? Kelvin Link to comment
kelvinwsy
HI Jussi No need to do the last suggestion. This Minix Neo Minipc NAA endpoint has been my workhorse for at least 2 years. No problem getting native DSD 512 hooked up to the iFi iDSD Micro BL. It has to be the linux Eunhasu OS for the SOTM SM200 Ultra. There is a list of DSD512 capable DAC's listed on the Eunhasu manual webpage. Obviously the SMSL VM D1 is not there But i will check again. I have asked the local dealer whom I bought the SM200 through. Let him ask SOTM Audio for the answer. Maybe I need to flash a new version of the Eunhasu OS which is up to 4.56 from m 4.32 but there were so many bugs that tried up to 4.32 and gave up. Yes I will try your bootable image on the MINIX Minipc this evening. Link to comment
