PeterSt
Just making fun : 10db above that would be 95db, not 111. Which only tells that the listening chair was at close to 3 meters distance. haha But don't use this information for anything because it really doesn't work out like that in practice; when I manage to have the room filled with (good accurate) sound, even at 10 meters distance the SPL is only 4 db or so less than at the normal (standard) 1 meter distance. But don't forget reflections of the wall behind you ... Directive speakers (or not) ... Fokus
10db above that would be 95db, not 111. 111dB. The calibration was done at -16dBFS, whereas music peaks at 0dBFS. 85 + 10 + 16 But this was just a person listening to (room) silence, trying to detect the slightly higher noise floor of the 16 bit track. Nothing to do with someone having cymbals at 110dB in his room. Link to comment
Synfreak
Edit: Actually just what level may have been used is confusing: Our standard system gain was calibrated using an octave of pink noise recorded at -16 dBFS, which produced a wideband SPL of 85 dB at the listening chair. 10db above that would be 95db, not 111. 85dB at -16dB FS = 101dB maximum peak plus 10dB = 111dB It's all in the numbers ;-) Edit: @Fokus was faster Esoterc SA-60 / Foobar2000 -> Mytek Stereo 192 DSD / Audio-GD NFB 28.38 -> MEG RL922K / AKG K500 / AKG K1000 / Audioquest Nighthawk / OPPO PM-2 / Sennheiser HD800 / Sennheiser Surrounder / Sony MA900 / STAX SR-303+SRM-323II Link to comment
