I am guessing we are talking about Analog to Digital Conversion. The first time you use an abbreviation please spell it out.

Well, yes, but you also have to apply a little common sense. Context is everything. IMHO, only one of your choices has any relevance here - Analog to Digital Converters (conversion).

and you will also find quite a large number of meanings. But in context of CA :) we all know what's being talked about.

In the context of computer audiophile forum and needle droppers I believe it was quite obvious!

I could not agree more, however, one of the great features of this site is that many new folks come here for info. It is helpful to the noobies to keep it basic at the Original Post (OP) level so they can gain information about this hobby.

I would suggest a "home recording" section rather than a ADC section...

While I agree "Everything may matter" working out what actually affects the sound is a trickier thing.

And I agree "Trust your ears" but equally don't allow them to fool you - trust them with a bit of skepticism.

"Home recording" and ADC are not interchangeable. I would prefer "ADC" as not being specifically about only recording, but the conversion process.

I wasn't trying to suggest the term was interchangeable; its just my opinion; but ADC is too narrow (IMO). Make it "ADC and recording" if you like but two things against a purely ADC forum (1) ADC is not a friendly term for people new looking for information and (2) there is the equipment surrounding the ADC which people also want (need) to know about. For example if you call it ADC then would someone asking how to connect their turntable or cassette deck to their computer via line input know where to visit. Perhaps even make it a "recording from analogue sources" forum.

Just trying to make it more user friendly.

Personally I think the forums could do with a bit of a reorganise. For example rename networking to include all turnkey music servers and players; the current Music Servers forum (which mostly discusses CAPs type PCs) to incorporate the Disc Storage. The Headphobe and Speakers forum expanded to include amplifiers which are occasionally discusses elsewhere.

It could also cover conversions from Analogue Tape.

How a Digital Audio file sounds, or a Digital Video file looks, is governed to a large extent by the Power Supply area. All that Identical Checksums gives is the possibility of REGENERATING the file to close to that of the original file.
