HIFI
When I am "evaluating" a new piece of gear, I listen to the music still. If it doesn't evoke a response to make the music "better" I pass. I don't listen analytically for any specific thing. I listen to the music. I like the way you word this . . . I think the more analytical I become the easier I miss the emotional envolvement I should be seeking. If I relax, take time I find myself either more envolved or less envolved. At that point I believe, for myself, that there is a value difference, better or worse. My System : TWO SPEAKERS AND A CHAIR Link to comment

At that point I believe, for myself, that there is a value difference, better or worse. +1 I have also found that once I got to a certain level of sound reproduction, I stopped worrying if something would help improve the sound and instead focus on enjoyment of the music. Further, I've long held that our emotional state affects our enjoyment of the music. The old saying that when you're happy, you understand the music and when you're sad, you understand the lyrics is so true for me. Of course it is much more complex (and often more intense) than that and, I believe, interactive when you can connect emotionally to your music being played in your home. Savage
A controlled reverberant field. There is something you don't often see but a nice one. I'll add a natural sense of harmonics. Not stripped, not overly lit up Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not." — Nelson Pass Link to comment
