Not in the mood today to plunk down USD 25 for a high-res download whose provenance is completely unknown and undocumented (as far as I can tell).

Maybe tomorrow. I am a huge Crowded House fan.

Office: MacBook Pro - Audirvana Plus - Resonessence Concero - Cavailli Liquid Carbon - Sennheiser HD 800.

Travel/Portable: iPhone 7 or iPad Pro - AudioQuest Dragonfly Red - Audeze SINE or Noble Savant

The old DVD-A does not contain a stereo track. It has a 5.1 96/24 surround mix.

IIRC, the DVD-Audio also contains a a "Video_TS" folder (DVD-Video), which does offer a 96kHz/24Bit Stereo programm.

And i think it was also quite compressed. I try to get the DR ratings of it, if i can find it ;-)

Ughh, missed opportunity :( Really like Crowded House and would have bought in a heartbeat if it was a real upgrade.

Hmmmm...I will have to take another look at it as well. The DVD-A extractor program I used must have ignored that folder, I suppose.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info.

I was never a big fan of the surround mix, so it's safe to assume that I would be no fonder of the stereo mix.

Looks like the Japan EMI Black Triangle CD will continue to be my reference.

I recommend hunting down the 3-cd box set (printing in the 90s), I think pressed in Holland. It has a slightly different running order for the first album, and the one big improvement is that the first guitar strum of "Something So Strong" isn't chopped (albeit it's only a few milliseconds chopped off on the domestic release - I never even noticed until I bought the box set).
