Local Networking and Meeting Members

Recommended Posts

Hi Chris,

I live in New York and will do my best to attend the Computer Audiophile Symposium in California. Unfortunately, my schedule may make the trip impossible. I’m still trying to make changes to my schedule and will do my best to attend (provided tickets are still available by the time my schedule is resolved).

For those of us unable to attend the symposium, how do you feel about local networking?

A distinguished member of CA recently brought up the concept of an “audiophile dating service.” Since I’m happily married, this specific request does not apply to me. However, it raises the excellent concept of networking within the CA community.

I would like to meet fellow members of CA in my area. Most of my friends and family use my system as a reference. We discuss equipment, players, new music and the characteristics of recordings. Our meetings are insightful, helpful and enjoyable.

I would like to expand my small audiophile network to a broader group that includes CA members in my area. My mid-town NYC apartment is capable of hosting fairly large groups and I would welcome the opportunity to have local CA gatherings. The goal is to share experiences and learn from one another.

Are you cool with idea? I am willing to share my personal and professional details in advance. For what it’s worth, I’m the CEO of a regulated entity and my professional references are readily available to you and the public.

What do you think?

Thank you,

Chris

FYI, A'gon has an "Audio Clubs" section with geographic listings of various formal/casual audio get-togethers...

http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?lclub&1&ctg&0&50&

and S'phile also posts a list of local Audio Societies...

Audiocircle also has sub-forums with regional groups, but their website has been down for a few days.

For those in the Tampa Bay area, we have the Tampa Bay Listening Society... www.thetbls.com

Yes, I couldn't resist the dating comment. Not much to ask given Chris has so much time on his hands. :-)

I did start a thread hoping those in the UK would meet up. Chris kindly produced a map showing us where we all lived. Nothing came of it.

Any UK forumers reading - I'm still interested in arranging something.

Thank you for the links and recommendations Sleepysurf. I suppose that other audio clubs and groups may have members that focus on computer-based audio too. It’s nice to have options. Thanks again.

Hi BEEMB, I respect your direct approach…and, you’ll never know unless you ask. With a little luck, you might just meet your match here at CA. Good luck!

I sent Chris an email with my bio and background info as requested. We’ll see if something materializes.

Cheers,

Chris

P.S. Two additional thoughts come to mind: (1) some forums and clubs have a donation option; and (2) it would be cool to see pictures of the systems that we list as equipment…perhaps a photo gallery for members?
