Who's used the Audiophile Optimizer for Windows 2012 Server or Windows 8?

Recommended Posts

WS2012 R2 Essentials will have the same results are the full version.

FYI - Server Core Mode (the best sound) is ONLY available for Standard or above, please don't get Essentials or Foundation.

Let's be careful before we get the license, cheers.

BTW, are you guys keeping 2012 R2 fully patched on a monthly basis as shown in the text file attached? If so, were those patches making a difference in the SQ department? Thanks.

I found that Unified Write Filter (UWF) could be enabled as follows, it's better for NAND-based storage like SSDs

[Power Shell] Unified Write Filter Install - Pastebin.com

Unified Write Filter (Standard 8)

It could be taken from Windows Embedded 8 Standard as well as Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry

However, only Windows Embedded 8 Standard is good for audio purposes because of its modular design. And they won't plan to release Windows Embedded 8.1 Standard but we could probably slipstream some binaries from 8.1 Industry into 8 Standard

Right-click cmd.exe or Command Prompt and then click Run as administrator afterwards, simply enter these lines to add both Task Manager and foobar2000 to the autostart list

reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v TaskMgr /t REG_SZ /d "C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.exe"

FYI - we could check those items were added properly under the Logon tab of Autoruns

I'd like to see experimental support for Windows PE 5.1 in the future

Could that further streamline the entire OS by any chance?

Yet another alternative would be Windows Server 2012 R2 for Embedded Systems if that could become part of the AO package down the road

Reasons to Use Windows Embedded Server vs. General Purpose Servers

  • Optimal Pricing – Pay only for the functionality used
  • Longer product support – Products are supported for a minimum of 5 years, with 5 mainstream and 5 extended
  • Guaranteed availability – Products are guaranteed to be available for 15 years from release

That's terrific since you're already familiar with PE now. This particular flavor of PE could look more promising

http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=774.0

http://theoven.org/index.php?board=33.0

They even got WoW64 Basic working and 32-bit applications should be OK

http://win81se.cwcodes.net/projectindex.php

Most likely we're just facing challenges like this one here

http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=997.0

And that 72-hour thing really is no big deal at all

http://w7pese.cwcodes.net/Projects/Win7PESE/Tweaks/72hours.script

And we've got 180 days to play with Windows Embedded 8 Standard (with Embedded Core mode) for free as well

http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f10-music-servers/whos-used-audiophile-optimizer-windows-2012-server-or-windows-8-a-17897/index29.html#post343924

For the licensing part, could Small Green Computer get in touch with a Microsoft Partner such as Advantech / Arrow Electronics / Avnet / Elbacom or not? Granted SGC wouldn't be exactly an OEM but I'm just wondering about how "flexible" they really are when it comes to the licenses for those embedded versions of Windows.

Thanks again for looking into PE and let's see if that Win8.1SE mentioned above were feasible or not.

Not exactly sure if the MSDM table / SLIC could be "transplanted" to CAPS or not.

100-device licenses of Windows Embedded 8 Standard turned out to be in the 6K to 7K range, 58 bucks a piece would be quite a bit more attractive than the license of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials IMHO

Once again Microsoft updated the kernel of Windows Server 2012 R2 and latest patch was released on August 27, 2014 (with a couple of know issues) recently.

Does it make a difference in the SQ department before / after those patches are installed? If so, we could keep track of the version and compare notes afterwards.

Here's the direct link to download the LAN driver for Intel Gigabit and we could simply change the file extension from PROWin64.exe to PROWin64.zip accordingly

http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23073/eng/PROWinx64.exe

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23073

Extract that file PROWin64.zip and then this is the directory for Windows Server 2012 R2 where the driver is found

\PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS64

If there were any difficulties with changing the file extension from *.exe to *.zip as mentioned above, this is a larger download but it's definitely working right away

Windows 10 IoT Core for MinnowBoard MAX (x86) - DVD (English)

This is the core OS image that powers Windows IoT platform on MinnowBoard MAX. Windows 10 IoT Core is the smallest version of the Windows 10 editions that leverages the Windows 10 common core architecture. This edition enables building low-cost devices with fewer resources. Development for Windows 10 IoT Core leverages the Universal Windows Platform.

That looked pretty close to Core Server and maybe it's worth a look if we're subscribers:

Great idea, but how do I install/configure RDP on an OS without keyboard and mouse control of that OS?

Does this still work for you?

Using Device Manager Remotely

If not, I hope that you didn't disable Remote Registry or block that with firewall

Q: How can I remotely enable Remote Desktop Services on a remote server?

If that were no go, you could manually load the registry hive (C:\Windows\System32\config\SOFTWARE) from another instance of Windows Server 2012 R2 and then take a look at this key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\RemoteRegistry

Other than that, we could also try PsExec and VNC Server

A situation like this would require something like ERD Registry Editor since we could manually re-enable those disabled items

That's part of Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset from Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack, simply do a search on MSDaRT81.msi and you'll find this

Alternatively, we could also try this instead
