Does SSD sound better than Hard Disk?

Recommended Posts

Yep, even if I never thought about this, changing the case fans to DC from PWM changed the sound signature and brought back a more "analogue" sound which is warmer and has more bass than the one before. However, this kind of sound seems not to be as analytical as the other, but it might be that indeed, those 4 PWM controlled fans were inducing some noise which made me think about that brighter sound to be more "precise". So now I do not hear any difference between my old HDD and the currently used SSDs.

I've done this on a very limited scale. I have no data, measurements, or scientifically approved testing procedure to back up my opinion either. In my experience an SSD sounds better with my Mac Pro and a Zalman fanless PC running Windows XP. Other people I know have the same opinion and have conducted some extremely basic A/B tests with mastering engineers and product designers. Again, not empirical data. Just sharing my experience with SSD v. HDD.

Thought I’d repost this (see the date of the post) just to reinforce to us all how long we have been thinking about this subject, how much time has passed and how much more informed we’ve all become....our stereo systems have become so very technical but slowly much more accessible due to the guidance of this community.

It has been a great musical adventure!

Many thanks to Chris and all other posters for this.
