TarnishedEars
Guys with the SMB set up on the Oppo. When a drive is connected to that Oppo's USB port, can you mount it as an SMB share on a computer? Is that what you are saying? That you can see that attached USB drive on the Oppo and simply move the files across that way... I do that with Dune players (for movies). If the Oppo was capable of this (for music files) that would *very* cool... That doesn't sound right. When they are talking about using an SMB share, it is the other way around AFAIK: The Oppos can read files on SMB shares on either your computer or a network storage device via the network. But the Oppo does not contain an SMB server which would allow you to share its drives. Link to comment

CatManDo
I always understood it as a SMB client function, to be freed from the restrictions of DLNA. Using the Oppo as a SMB server for attached storage seems kind of odd, given that there are plenty of NAS products on the market. Claude Link to comment
wappinghigh
Ok. So what you are saying is you put the DSD files on a NAS drive... probably in a separate folder to all your other music that you smb share off to other stuff like Sonos etc.. and you mount the NAS share in the Oppo's GUI menu and navigate to the DSD folder there.. Correct? has anybody actually done this and got the Oppo to stream these files properly to the Oppo? Yes or No? And can you get multi-channel files to stream adequately this way? masayk
It seems the channel assignment of mutichannel DFF/DSF file playbach on OPPO BDP-103 is not corrent - on surround right. I noticed it when I played back SACD rippied Wish You Were Here track 4 (Wish You Were Here) - the first 30 second intro from surround right is silent. I think I should send report to OPPO so that they can fix for official release, if I am not missing something. -masayk Link to comment
Regnad
I have some multi-channel problems as well, I have no center speaker and I don't think that the OPPO handles the "phantom" center correctly. masayk
The surround right absense occurs only when automatic DSD to PCM conversion through HDMI to AV receiver. When hooked to DSD capable AV receiver (such as DENON AVR-3808) through HDMI (DSD bitstreaming) everything seems to be workning fine. -masayk Link to comment

Either? The second option is native DSD (although through HDMI, which can be jittery but that's another issue). Masayk, it sounds like you haven't isolated that this problem could well be your AVR. AVR seems to be no issue, as I tried both DENON AVR-3808 and Maranzt AV7005. If playing SACD disc with the same settings there is no problem. I changed OPPO settings (such as HDMI output settings) but the result remains the same. The first 30 seconds was misleading - the absense of surround right is entire ( regardless of DFF/DSF multichannel file). The same issue from both USB and SMB network. Link to comment

When the Oppo is set to play SACDs and DSD files as DSD, the multi-channel assignments are correct. When the Oppo is set to play the same discs/files as PCM, the Center/LFE channels are swapped with the Rear L & R channels. No big deal. Oppo will fix it in time, and I'm not sure why anyone would go to the hassle of playing back native DSD multi-channel from a USB drive just to convert it to PCM. I also found that playback of DSD files from USB storage is NOT gapless. When playing back Daphne & Chloe from Telarc/Ravel DSF-MC, there were definite pauses between movements, interrupting the flow of the music. Bummer. Russ Link to comment

Oppo is aware of what you describe, and like you said, will fix it. I was told that it will be fixed in the official non beta release of the firmware. It's important for those users that use their receiver for speaker and room correction functions. They must have the file converted to PCM to operate. Link to comment

masayk
I know that minimserver does dff, dsf over dlna if hardware supports. Anyway interested to hear how you set up SMB on the Oppo. I installed minimserver onto my ReadyNAS Duo with tagged dsf files (by JRMC v17) hoping that the metadata and album art shows up on my OPPO103 when playing - only resulted no shows... anybody successfully enabling dsf/dff metadata? - masayk Link to comment

When I select it and choose files to play it does nothing.. strange that the dsf files icons are shown as APE, not DSF... when I select the NAS by SMB it works perfect. Anybody sucessfully play back dsf from MinimServer with all metadata showing? Link to comment
