Been playing 24 96 files this evening on 2.53 new loop with no issues! Cheers, Pearse.

hi pearse your meitner has the xmos chipset and thesycon drivers?

ive an arcam rpac that plays everything up to 24 192 with the new firmware and drivers on 2.53 xxxxx also xmos/thesycon

i think its because thesycon driver accepts 24 in 32 folder

Tried the bat file for FLAC conversion but no luck and also tried to code from Adolfo with no luck, has MQN moved on past working for FLAC conversion file at this point with 2.53? Cheers, Pearse.

First download latest SOX from here SOX and install it to C:\Sox\

Then save the text below as MQNFlac.bat to your MQn folder and make shortcut on the desktop (works perfect). The same for mp3. Can't manage it to work with M4a/AAC.

@echo off

Title MQn FLAC - Just good music

del Files.txt /q

paste > param.txt

Uploaded 2.53 sse4 intel nt nt, think it is quite sweet sounding and tuneful

-yes. sweet/mellow. on the edge to have rax no zi's heartfelt mellowness. not there yet.

-vocal needs more up and down. volume is flat.

-stage can be more correct. a satisfying stage is yet to be discovered.

SQ: very good, sound of each instrument (bass, guitar, keyboard, drum, piano..., vocal) have good vibration, fuller than rax no zi (except bass, ~, but OK). sound have more warm, energy, power but also mellow, not heavy. i feel emotion. very good.

need to reduce soundstage/width, still over norm, near at ears, then volume seems more in total, brightness is too. sound thickness a bit more than other players, should be a bit more thin after reducing soundstage, automatically? waiting..

i like this version. waiting for musical emotion from it.

piano sound

-best clarity on weight! lightness press/drop on the piano is deep and full. this version is a delight if you only focus on the skill of the pianist and forget the about the quality of recording and correct tune.

-tune is slightly bright. bass notes should be slightly less blurry/muddy.

Seems like mqncontrol.exe does not accept filename with double byte characters.

Files.txt in different codepages with path\name in double byte characters was played using MQncontrol --file ".\Files.txt". All not pass.

So still copy track and rename.

re-download mqn.bat & mqncotrol.exe from Main folder, newer versions for unicode filename.

JC - for once we agree

uploaded 2.53 nt nt dec eax cp - building on 2.53 nt nt - dec takes the brightness off and cp adds a depth to the sound. probably one of the best ones I've heard. Lovely to listen to.

not sure what you mean about "sound thickness", wonder if you could put what you are saying in your own language as well and then we can google translate it (maybe you are doing that already), would be interesting to see the results.

Thanks John, will try this later and I expect moving SOX to the Root might be just what I was missing. Cheers, Pearse.

think "sound thickness" means sound density. sometimes sound needs to be 'thin', but it is still 'thick' for 2.53 sse4 intel nt nt

almost there... it needs some air... need space to breath... if that makes any sense. need a balance between relax and intense. not feeling the emotional response yet.

for piano, it is technically the best version so far. think it's missing the rebounce effect. it is like jelly dropping dead on the floor. it should be like a ball drop and then rebounce. otherwise, i can't ask for more technically. it is already great.

sorry for my bad english (google translate help me). i mean "fatty, plump". i have detected a bit incorrect soundstage/width, => vocal focus not good and sound is fatty, plump, near at ears, a bit earache with headphones (i have testing by my headphones with max volume, good player does not destroy sound in max-volume).

2.53 nt nt dec eax cp still a bit incorrect soundstage/width.

Agree with the above posts - current versions are all very good, if subtly different. I am particularly liking 2.53 nt nt. It's very open and detailed with great dynamics and tone.

As a brief experiment yesterday I resampled a red book track upto 44100 at 24 and 32 bits. The WaveIO/Thesycon interface didn't approve of that either. I haven't tried the same experiment with any other player, so will do so when I get a spare minute. It'll be interesting to see whether it is inherent in the interface technology or something between the player and the driver.

wasn't being critical, not sure if fatty, plump are the correct words either more how you would describe a duck. Can your headphones cope with max volume, usually their performance would degrade ?

ok, shall get on and do the 24 bit version.

24 bit is not ideal as it is 3 Bytes (3 x 8 Bits) , CPUs deal with cache lines of 64 bytes, 3 doesn't go into 64 and the data is loaded into cache in 16 Byte chunks, so with 16/32 bit the data can be loaded as 8 x 16 Bytes = 128 Bytes at a time and with 24 bit it can is loaded in 9 x 16 Bytes = 144 Bytes, this means it loads 2 whole cache lines and 16 Bytes of a third cache line, this is called a cache line split as the whole of the 3rd cache line is loaded even though it isn't used and can lead to extra cpu cycles and more noise.

Whether this will affect the SQ I don't know yet, but it is a reason why I think 24 bit is not a particularly smart format, because extra noise will be generated and it won't be a regular noise. Think AMD cpus are less affected by cache line splits and haswell isn't affected so much.

Due to the WaveIO is playing 16/44.1 very well, sound quality should not be affected here, I guess!? And thought you assume 24bit is not an optimal format for hires files, I would give it a try if it generally could be done. The alternatives are: Using sox and transcoding hires files down, buying a new DAC/DDC or not to play hires files. Maybe it helps to have the output from WASAPI_Test.exe for the WaveIO with Thesycon driver 1.67:
