What's the maximum SSD storage capacity (inbuilt) using 512Gb SSD drives, that are we now talking about here? (making use of the additional esata connection)

Are we talking 4x 512 = around 2TB of SSD capacity?

And could not JRiver be set up to index all 4 SSD's..all contained within the one server. All isolated from mains using battery power?

This is cool!!

So please confirm the max no of SSD that could be installed internally and powered in this way. Thx!! :)

Is the PW-12V5A-L5 enough of a power supply? I note that the Bryston BDP-2 has a bumped up linear PSU with "over 5 amps, 10 amps peak". With an internal SSD and a couple of connected USB drives, how much power do you think is drawn?

Yeh I'd like to know this as well..this CAPS is very much going to compete with the BDP-2

In fact that is precisely where I'm coming from as well...

But Carbon is going to be way cheaper/more flexible with add on choice and software choice etc etc..

Like a third the cost, twice as expandable and way more flexible :)

Will SGC be offering a CAPS carbon Kit? Even without the case..given the original Carbon case is not available? Thanks

Sounds like you're describing HDPlex.

Eloise

Which HDplex would suit the CAPS3 Carbon build Eloise? The H 5.5? And with what Power supply>?

Thanks

Chris regarding storage *on* the server, obviously SSD is the way to go. Do you think it would be possible to plug and play an SSD some how? A lot of folks libraries would be well under 1TB... Alternatively how would the carbon handle running 2* 512 SSD drives 24/7 And which ones would you recommend? Cheers.

Chris, or anyone else. What's the point of filtering SSD's with the SOTM filter card? If you are powering the CAPS and consequently motherboard and SSD (which has no spinning parts) all by battery..all clean power, what exactly are you "filtering" with this card? Cheers

Well exactly Ted. I agree. So maybe that's the point of the SOTM filter? I don't know. As you said in your original q/ it didn't seem to help your own CAPS much. So what exactly is it "filtering"? Power from the MB? Or is it noise from a spinning HDD? In which case it would be zero use with a SDD.. Get my question?

If anyone has bought that HDplex case can you please confirm how you went slotting in the Intel motherboard. The MB described in this CAPS build has a built in Atom processor with a black heat sink already on top. Does this fit in under that copper pipe arrangement built into the HDplex? Do you have to bend the pipes to get the MB in, or did you have to remove the Atom heat sink off the Intel board? Cheers.

There are reports that linux users will have problems with these new Intel Atom boards. Here is the link : http://www.pcworld.com/article/262324/intel_clover_trail_atom_chip_wont_work_with_linux.html

This CAPS intel board is one of these clover trails, correct?

Are there any alternatives from say Gigabit which also can be externally power from a battery?

Has anyone thought of actually powering components with small lithium batteries. You know AA, AAA even those you find in garage remotes or watches? Seriously. Once you have the motherboard and SOTM USB card powered, how much power do these smaller components need? Chris said this CAPS case had a real easy flip top case. Why not power the SSD's with disposable lithium batteries? How many other components are we talking about? Without spinning discs, add on estata cards, video cards etc etc...ie if one builds a "pure" CAPS, what else do you need to power? I know jack sh*t what I'm talking about here and no idea if it could be done, but seriously why not ?

^ I mean this is where CAPS is heading folks..

Raspberry Pi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Model B has 2 USB ports and one Ethernet. For storage: well Lexar just released a 256 GB SD card: and eventually we'll get 2TB SD cards.

The rasberry pi costs $25 runs Linux right now, soon XBMC..who knows even Frodo XBMC and 24/192 files. Probably other Linux based audiophile media players too ... Heck I don't know!

All potentially powered by lithium disposable batteries...

I know this sounds far fetched..but these things are available *now*..

So dont spend too much on all these "powering stuff" options guys.. Just saying.
