HQPlayer's Network Audio Adapter

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Sorry, i'm a newbie. I would like to setup NAA endpoint to feed a T+A DAC8 DSD from ROON / HQPlayer (DSD 512 if possible).

  • What NAA endpoint HW / SW to choose to get easiest installation, reliable operation and good support from HQP community and @Miska ?

  • Any commonly used setup ?

I would prefer some LINUX SBC (but i know there is some limitations with USB drivers regarding T+A DAC)

Thank you.

.... With the DAC8 DSD for anything above DSD128, at the moment you are limited to Windows-based NAA due to driver availability limitation ...

Thank you @Miska.

Any chance in the near future for Linux driver availability ?

Who is in charge for this availability: T+A ? Amanero ? Others ?

Do you personally like using T+A DAC8 DSD in this setup ? Good DAC ?

Thank you @bogi

i like the xtreamer winbox metal case but, unfortunately, seems currently out of stock.

@Miska's recommended CL100 is more expensive but seems serious european brand (NL).

I will investigate and hope for a LINUX solution (like RPI, Cubox ...) if and when the USB driver availability issue with T+A DAC solved.

...Yes, the DAC is very good. I would otherwise use it with plain direct connection, but I like to be able to access it from HQPlayer computers located in a different room.

Thank you,

Why would you prefer to use it with plain direct connection vs with NAA ?

Do you use "filters" like Regen, Intona (or others) to optimize USB connection ?

Hi,

I would like to setup audio dedicated SBC NAA (and RoonBridge) endpoint to feed a USB DAC (up to DSD512 if and when supported from DAC USB driver). After some readings here and on several threads some questions to the expert(s) :

HW

- Any advantage to use Odroid C2 or Cubox vs RPI 2 or 3 ?

- RPI 2 USB / Ethernet bandwidth and CPU OK to deal with DSD streams ?

SW

- DietPi a good option to get easiest install, setup and support (i'm not at all a LINUX geek) ?

SQ customization advices

- Linear PSU to power SBC (vs a « good » switched PSU like iFi iPower for example) ? - Network and USB isolation devices required or almost useful (Intona, Regen …) ?

- Any comparison (from SQ point of view) vs MicroRendu or SotM-sms 200 turnkey solution ?

Thank you

Hi,

I’ve installed HQP on WIN10 and successfully fed directly my T+A DAC8 DSD from Roon via T+A (Amanero) ASIO driver … Perfect, no issue !

I would like to test NAA on Windows too and because no other networked Win box available i’ve tried to run NAA on the same box (just for test purpose obviously).

No Joy  … (attached full networkaudiod output)

Anybody succeed running concurrently HQP and NAA on same WIN10 computer ?

Thank you ?

Hey Miska, I'm going to purchase the logic CL100 you recommended as NAA for HQplayer DSD512 streaming.

Which operating system you will recommend for CL100? I'm going for 16GB RAM and 64GB SSD configuration.

For stability, is windows 10 pro good enough? I also see Logic offering Microsoft Windows Embedded 7 E, what do you think ? Thanks in advance.

I'm really interested in your question to @Miska about CL100 because i'm also looking for a "good" ASIO / NAA endpoint.

However, is stability really the main concern ? What about USB interface qualities and resulting SQ at DAC outputs ?

I would like a WIN / ASIO endpoint with the same qualities (isolation, reclocking) as MicroRendu, SMS-200, Allo USB-Bridge ?

Thanks for your reply. It's a pity that HQ-player NAA software doesn't work resp. is available for this very nice ethernet device called Allo UsBridge (+ Sparky).

It doesn't? Why? I thought someone was using that combo.

Running NAA on ALLO-USBridge since few months. Very stable, no issue using DietPi. Admin is easy and user friendly either via Allo Web GUI or via DietPi menus.

Hi @Miska
Using NAA (3.5.4-38) with DietPi (6.19.7) on ALLO USBridge (Sparky Kernel version 3.10.38) to feed my DAC.
I've recently discovered something weird when playing (PCM / DSD whatever the resolution):
dmesg output (about every second): delay: estimated 0, actual X

DietPi ssh terminal:

> dmsg -wH

Sound is perfect, no issue !

No such messages when playing from RoonBridge .

I've looked at https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15204#p407215 seems same messages output using MPD ?

Any idea why these messages ?

I've cross posted to ALLO support but don't know yet where networkaudiod logs are located.

Thank you ...

No idea why you get those messages. Are you using same output format (rate) with Roon Bridge?

3.5.4 is a bit old version, I would also recommend to update to latest 3.5.5 build.

Yes @Miska
Same rate with NAA and Roon Bridge (tested with PCM 44.1 and DSD 11.28)

- NAA: each seconds

delay: estimated 0, actual xxx

- Roon Bridge: No messages

I will update to 3.5.5 and let your know ...

Hi @Miska, just updated NAA from 3.5.4 to 3.5.5 (USBridge / DietPi 6.21).

Still strange dmesg like delay: estimated  X, actual Y messages playing to NAA at any rate and no such messages with RoonBridge.

Anything else to investigate ?

I don't know, I have not seen such on my devices yet...

Something from the kernel, so probably something hardware related.

Thank's @Miska,
I'm in touch with @ALLOsupport and i will try to understand why "usb packets delay warnings" are shown only with NAA and at any rate. However no obvious SQ or functional consequences at the moment.

Just FYI:

According to ALLO issue was mainly observed with AMANERO devices.
ALLO has quickly updated DietPi / Volumio USBridge USB driver:

I''ve checked, playing from NAA during few hours: No more "delay ..." messages.

We'll see if it's stable in the long run.

Hi @Miska

i'm currently running NAA 3.6 (from 3.6.0-42_armhf.deb) on ALLO USBridge (Sparky SBC, not RPI)

Last NAA release available for Strech on your site is 3.6. Any chance you will release NAA 4.x for Strech (Buster is not suitable for ALLO Sparky SBC) ?

Thank you.

Are you planning to use the input feature?

No needs for input feature at the moment. However i guess 3.x branch will not evolve anymore.

I appreciate to have the latest NAA version. I hadn't planned to upgrade to the new USBridge Sig (RPI / Buster) but maybe I should if NAA is only updated on Buster.
