wgscott
OK, to make everyone happy, I thought we could start a common invective thread, a safe place to insult everyone with impunity, where no one will take it personally. The only requirement: keep it high-brow. Link to comment

souptin
I remember (from a long, long time ago, when I was young) a school trip to France. One of us had the genius idea that we could (in English) curse, swear, and generally insult the locals, because, being French speaking, "they wouldn't understand". We put this theory to the test one night, on a group of very large men on motorbikes (presumably the local chapter of Hell's Angels or similar). I don't know what would have been more impressive to a bystander at the incident: The beautiful, perfectly executed slow motion turn executed by the bikers as they wheeled towards us... Or the chaotic but quite remarkable speed with which we all ran away... Or just the ability of insults to transcend the language barrier if you shout loud enough. Oh, and just to stay on topic so this topic doesn't degenerate into the usual insulting match (oh, wait): I fart in your general direction. Link to comment

bachrocks
I suddenly remember how my high school GF insulted me when she broke up with me on the telephone: "And I hate your classical music!" I'm tempted to insult her here, but nothing I say could compete with her quip above; although, if I had her number, I might be tempted to ring her in the middle of the night and share a selection of Schoenberg's piano music. ron Link to comment
