willfriedwald
this should be a very basic question for this website forum: what is a good basic device for hooking up a computer to a stereo? It can be USB or firewire or whatever (since I'm using a linux platform machine, maybe USB is more compatible with everything?). anything other than the headphone jack... am talking on the low-end side price wise - $100 or less? Maybe $150 if it's something really terrific? thanks Willfriedwald Link to comment
Markus
you could take a Behringer U-Control UCA202 USB-Audio Interface. This device works under Linux and provides both analog input and output. Link to comment
willfriedwald
thank you ! looks like a winner. For $30, how can I go wrong? I started using an EDIROL device when I first started using iTunes, around 2003 - it has never failed me. I could get another EDIROL, but I wanted to see what was out there - this Behringer looks great! thanks again! w Link to comment
Ashley James
The M-Audio Transit is a better part than the Edirol too if it works with Linux. Ash Link to comment
willfriedwald
thanks. The M-Audio looks good, but it seems to only have an earphone output. I think the Breth (I can't remember the entire spelling) will work better for me because it has full-sized RCA stereo outputs. but will look into the M-Audio too... thanks muchly. Link to comment
Markus
If you like information about the M-Audio Transit and Linux, here is some: http://www.theory.physics.ubc.ca/transit.html. I cannot say anything first hand about the M-Audio Transit. The Behringer UCA202 is probably less of a hassle to run under Linux and lets you monitor the source and/or output with a headphone output, which works great with my ATH M-50 studio monitor headphones.
