sastusbulbas
Hi all, Just curious to hear if anyone has measured the clock accuracy from the digital output on their PC or Mac and if high how have they dealt with it? What sort of parts per million errors are people getting? Cheers, Steve Link to comment
sastusbulbas
I guess no answers means no one actually knows? Link to comment
audioengr
Clock accuracy or PPM rates are unimportant really, as long as it's not so far off that the DAC cannot lock on. It's jitter that is important. This is the edge-to-edge variability in the period of the clock. Very highly accurate clocks can also have high jitter. Steve N. Empirical Audio Link to comment
franepici
Then what the PPM is index of? Link to comment
audioengr
"Then what the PPM is index of?" Parts per million of deviation from a particular frequency. Steve N. Empirical Audio Link to comment
franepici
and isn't a deviation from a frequency a more concrete problem than jitter? Link to comment
audioengr
"and isn't a deviation from a frequency a more concrete problem than jitter?" No, most DAC's can tolerate wide variation in absolute frequency and still operate perfectly. Jitter is another matter. It causes distortion in the analog outputs. Steve N. Link to comment
