    Audiophile iTunes Settings

    <img src="http://www.computeraudiophile.com/files/itunes-settings.jpg" style="padding: 1pt 10pt 7pt 0pt;" align="left">This may seem obvious to some learned audiophiles, but there are many people searching for the optimal iTunes settings. Many are "newbies" who don't feel like posting such an elementary question. Here are two important settings I highly recommend, and one bonus setting to make life easier. It seems way too easy, but you don't have to adjust much within iTunes to ensure Audiophile quality.     <center>Make sure that Sound Enhancer and Sound Check are not enabled.

    <center>I select AIFF as my preferred format. More importantly make sure to enable error correction on this screen!!

    <center>This is my bonus setting that I recommend everyone enable. Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized is great and those not using it are creating work for themselves.

    I thought I might have stuck this over in the thread that Chris started for me to chronicle all of the trials and tribulations I have been going through, and to mark the progress (or lack of) towards the end of the tunnel. <br />

    Gordon's notation about changing the location of your music folder is an important one, and I would want to point out that if you are storing your music on a separate disk and forget to make sure that iTunes is seeing it before you perform any loading into your library, your program will default you back to the original location and deposit your new acquisitions there. It'll keep on doing this until you realize what happened and you make the switch back. No worries here though, it will be a simple procedure to tell iTunes to move the files to their proper storage place on the other drive.<br />

    I have some other hints that might prove useful, but I think I'll post them over in my own thread a little later so as to relate them to the specific speed bumps I've run into during this ongoing saga.

    Thanks the post Gordon. I agree 100% with what you're saying about the error correction. I am surprised by how many people don't use this, but hopefully this site will educate as well as entertain. <br />

    I think I will work on the consolidation & library management topic next. I just don't want to put some of the learned readers to sleep with simple stuff. But, they can always moved on to http://www.usbdacs.com if they aren't interested in my current topic :-)<br />

    I hear you about the "bad news". Why iTunes doesn't have an option to delete the old songs after consolidation is beyond me.

    I found iTunes had switched the sound enhancer on by default and I'd been wondering all this time why cymbols and "s" sounds were harsh. Now everything is much improved.

    does it matter what level you set the iTunes volume to? Should it be maxed or in the middle or doesn't that matter?<br />

    (sorry for the newbie question but i could find anything on the subject)<br />
