JPLAY for iOS Is Now Available

Hi Guys, just a quick update. The UPnP control point app I've been using for seemingly ever, is now available in the App Store! I love this app and vow to never install mconnect on my iPhone or iPad again :~)

I know @Marcin_gps and his team have been working to perfect the app for a long time. I'me very happy to see this come to fruition.

The app is well worth the $49.99 /yr price.

    Much more to come.

    App website - https://jplay.app

    App Store link - https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=1608773457

Perhaps you can answer a question for me Chris, or anyone for that matter. I have a TrueNAS device, is there a way to run MinimServer on that? It's not specifically listed on the MinimServer website, so currently I am running MinimServer on my trusty old 2011 Mac mini, running Ubuntu server, that just doesn't want to die.

If not, then I guess this is a good solution as it doesn't tax the machine at all, its currently sitting at ~1.5% total CPU usage while I play music.

    Hi Jud

I agree that the album view(s) for an artist could benefit from some improvements.

I believe it all starts with the fact that for Qobuz only Favorized Artists are shown.  Being a Roon user, i never favorized Artists in Qobuz (with 3 exceptions), so in JPlay on the Home screen I see 3 Atists in the heading

    image.thumb.png.279beed8c1b4cac206e83c0b82b79057.png

When I perform a search for e.g. The Doobie Brothers, I get all their (and related) albums, found at Qobuz & locally

    image.thumb.png.0e83a5435f5af3f11dc353cf73993844.png

Unfortunately, you cannot see if you have them locally, Qobuz favorized or not in your Library.  That is definitely missing.

Clicking an album that I know is in my Library (local for this example)

    image.thumb.png.c505e9377c15ce2b8aaf5b1402189320.png

Only when I scroll down, i then see what versions I have in my library

    image.thumb.png.466028a9bf6f7981ec4838dbef53408e.png

If I start looking for The Doobie Brothers in My Local Network, where I have a populated Artist list, I then get my local albums only.

    image.thumb.png.ed8dcbe23d5eba04610f8c28b9d94a34.png

So I agree it need some rework.

(it could maybe work if Qobuz would automatically favorize the corresponding  artist when you favorize an album, but it is safe toassume that will never happen)

    Is this a windows PC?

You're using an iOS app on a windows PC and complaining about the iOS app not working the way you want it to?

A question, perhaps it isn't possible, but... AM I able to control volume in HQPlayer Embedded from JPLAY for iOS?

    Screencap for your enjoyment only.

Well, the easiest way for me to send iPad  screenshots (with annotations) is to 1st send them to my Windows PC and work from there. I am not an ´artist´on my iPad, sorry.

I'll ask another question - are the search criteria of the iOS app JPLAY given immutably, or in the case of local data, do they depend on the settings of e.g. MinimServer?

The internal JPlay db is loaded using the xml file from Minimserver that is generated during the scan task where tags are retrieved according to Minimserver settings. This is exactly like Lumïn app and it is like upnp mediaserver is intended to work

OK and will the search option appear? For example, I have "All Artists" there and it is not in the JPLAY menu

That depends on how many tags the app is designed to show.

As I could understand “All Artists” in JPlay is named Artist and you’ll find there all the Artists but not the Album Artists.

In Lumïn app you can choose in the settings tab to group albums by track Artists or by Album Artist (green arrow) and you can choose to show (or not to show) the Composer tag (red arrow)

Unfortunately JPlay doesn’t give these options

Hi, just tested the App. I like the UI - thats really great!

The app found my Linn ADS3 quite quickly - that was also very nice.

    But:

    1) The digital volume control does not work. Just allows 0 or Max.

    2) Sound is a bit more shallow compared to the use of the white Linn app. No idea why.

    3) The sound level seems to be different compared to the linn app, even if the volume control is exactly at the same point.

    Best Regards

    Sebastian

I know, but I am interested in JPLAY app

    Then no chance …

I would say that the app is very immature ... almost an early beta test which is unforgivable in relation to the really high cost

I think you’ve found the perfect app for your use case. Suggesting another app should be identical to your favorite app is kind of strange to me.

    HI Sebastian,

Volume control is supported - should work with most devices, perhaps it works differently with Linn.

Regarding sound: please try increasing update time parameter.

    Best regards,
    Marcin

Sebastian, can you please activate logs in the settings section of the app, then unselect and select Linn streamer again and open renderer settings (wheel icon next to your Linn). Then send us the logs. It should give us some useful information. Thanks

    Best regards,
    Marcin

Did you guys find the Focus option? It is available in every screen under 'My Library' section.

    Marcin

    Is it this one?

You can use the merge option in Minimserver (available only for full license)

I use it in this way:

    tagValue  Artist.merge={Conductor, Orchestra, Soloists, AlbumArtist, Grouping, DISCSUBTITLE, Style, CATALOGOBWVRV}

you can merge any tag you like and you’ll obtain something like what is shown in my previous screenshot under Participations

No. See below. The screen has many many more options which allows for very precise filtering

Found it! … unfortunately Conductor, Work, Orchestra/Ensamble and Soloist are missing … when browsing Classical music albums they are fundamental
