JPLAY for iOS Is Now Available

Hi Guys, just a quick update. The UPnP control point app I've been using for seemingly ever, is now available in the App Store! I love this app and vow to never install mconnect on my iPhone or iPad again :~)

I know @Marcin_gps and his team have been working to perfect the app for a long time. I'me very happy to see this come to fruition.

The app is well worth the $49.99 /yr price.

    Much more to come.

    App website - https://jplay.app

    App Store link - https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=1608773457

Sorted. I had JRiver set up to include  file location in JRemote but didn’t realise there’s another setup screen for media server display in general.   Added file locations to this and now browsing by folder in JPLAY.

Good to hear it worked :)

    Hi all,

Has anyone tried the new JPLAY iOS app with the Chord 2go/Hugo 2 combination in hotspot mode.

I can't get the JPLAY iOS app to work and read/play from the 2go SD card in hotspot mode like MConnect and other apps work.

It appears that JPLAY does not see the 2go as a hotspot and the error message is "no interconnection seen." MConnect and others find the 2go as a hotspot no problem.

Does anyone know why this is the case? JPLAY sounds really good otherwise. Thanks.

Right now, the only odd behavior I am seeing is that on my iPhone/iPad JPLAY says I have 1597 albums in my library, while JPLAY on my Mac says I have 1582 albums. Both are connected to the same libraries, Local and Qobuz.

Perhaps you need to run 'sync favorites for Qobuz' manually to refresh the recently added favorites.

    UPDATE:

We improved discovery mechanism: one user reported that the app sees his Lumin streamer now. We're waiting for feedback from other testers, but it looks that this issue is resolved.

    Best regards,
    Marcin

2nd that with Lumin, revision 20 detected first shot, no multiple refreshes required.  Yay!

OK, added seven new albums by existing artist 'Renaissance'. The album view doesn't show these, sorted by date added, with a couple of  Minimserver rescans. All albums including the new ones show up in the Folder view of Minimserver and play just fine.

You have to Sync or Sync New in order to show these under Albums.

When will the update that fixes the problem with Lumin streamers be available?

Would I do that at  Settings > Qobuz > Synchronize Data ?

edit: That worked, now they both report the same number of albums. Thanks.

Question - if I search in "My library" I can use "Focus" to refine the search - in Albums and Track I can choose Qobuz, MinimServer and JPLAY femtoServer, but only Qobuz in Artits ... why?

    Found the Sync.

Home | Tap on Minimserver icon | Tap on SYNC New albums

Other choices include reloading the whole library and rescanning Minimserver, vital tools on a remote.

So where's the button again to see recent albums first on the list?

I do see some albums that have no cover art, I try to keep the folder.jpg between 50-90kb, and 98% of show up fine, others are black, and examination with MP3Tag and TagScanner indicate the embedded artwork is over this size. Can you please specify the limit of embedded file size so the album art is shown, thanks. Had a look at the FLAC format, and was overwhelmed by all the numbers, didn't make any sense to me.

When playing DSD64, when switching from PCM, the DAC has a lot of trouble to latch onto the stream. At least 5 relay clicks later then settles down to play the album. At each track change, there's another relay click, presumably to mute the transition. The Lumin app (which uses Minimserver like Jplay), Audirvana, Jriver work fine with DSD playback.

Oh, dang, this is a new install, forgot the settings for gapless playback are at default, switched all these on and update time to 1 and the behavior:

Initially when loading the album, 1 relay click

Let the album play through, no clicks

FF one track, 1 relay click

Any ideas to remove the relay clicks? I could live with the initial loading, but not the others.

The update scan function consistently, regardless of server, crashes out the app after running. It does an indexing scan and, upon completion, closes up and takes me back to the iPad desktop. I don't have that issue if I use the sync data scan.

From what I saw of update indexing prior to crashing, though, the update scans didn't seem to be faster than  clean scans. If they have been working for you, have any of you found them to be timesavers?

As long as one complete scan finishes, the update scans are much faster.

Oh yes. Especially with a large library. I just ran it, and it took 7 seconds.

Well, that’s interesting.  Before crashing out, JPlay routinely would take at least 15 minutes to do the update of just under 7tb of hoarded music.  Seven seconds would make it the fastest updater in the history of my digital music collecting.

Do file hierarchy and mapped versus local drive make a difference in search speed?

I’m running Minim directly on a QNAP NAS, and using my iPhone via WiFi right now.

FOCUS - when I want to search for an Album or Tracks, I can choose from Qobuz, MinimServer and femtoServer, when I want to search for Artists, I can only search in Qobuz within FOCUS, it seems very illogical to me

I’m running Minim directly on a QNAP NAS, and using my iPhone via WiFi right now.

Running JRiver on a NUC 10 i7 with 16gb RAM, with approximately 7tb music stored on a Synology NAS running fast WD Red Pro drives, and using a brand new iPad connected via Wi-Fi to a wired Ubiquiti access point in the same bedroom, it just took 13 minutes to index the albums in an update scan.  Then, without transitioning from indexing to updating, JPlay crashed out completely, as it has every time I have tried an update scan, regardless of server.  (I was trying JRiver today because MinimServer on the NAS was taking the same amount of time to index an update scan as to do the indexing in a clean scan and then crashed out.  I was hoping that JRiver would achieve a different outcome, but it did not.  The initial clean scan with each server took approximately two hours and completed successfully.)

I suspect that, regardless of server and controller app combination , it always will take longer to index my collection than other people’s because I have way too much music, use a complex storage hierarchy hierarchy with ten music sub folders (divided both by genre and file resolution), and treat every composition on a classical album as a separate album in its own right (because searching for music in albums entitled “French Impressionist Favorites” or “Boulez Conducts 20th Century American Classics” is ridiculous).  That said, in the clean scans, JPlay’s aggregation time isn’t out of line with other servers’ times.  I just need a way to speed things up when I have added just a few albums to the collection and am only doing an incremental scan.

I sent Marcin the log file after my first JRiver update scan crash.  I also asked him to look into display anomalies, where 16-44 multi-disc sets display as a single album but each album in hi-res sets tagged the same way show up correctly as “[title] (Disc x).”  I also have pointed out that, in search mode, my typing outpaces the search term mirroring on the screen by at least five seconds.  None of these are issues with other server and controller apps, so I know it is not my configuration presenting an insurmountable set of obstacles.

I have decided to let Marcin keep my $49 for one year, during which I hope he can address the many, many bugs about which I have posted in several places in this thread and described in messages to him.  Although my collection is entirely local and I don’t use Qobuz or Tidal, I want to see developers become viable competitors with the execrable Roon.  If Marcin can make strides towards pulling that off, I don’t begrudge him the money.  (To that end, it would be really great also if JPlay could get the advertised extra discographical information into local libraries in addition to the streamed ones.)

@Marcin_gpsI have some multi disk albums (quite a lot actually) where the tag SET SUBTITLE is used for the single disk name, typically they are multi disk boxes.

    One example is

Sviatoslav Richter - Complete Decca, Philips & DG Recordings

    6EF5521F-D4A7-4D89-B1B9-39D80A816D05.thumb.png.b701ee6eb805e2c30892250a090d63ea.png

    .

browsing this album BY Folders (Minimserver) all is fine but if I open the same album starting from My Library/Albums or Local Network/Albums the result is totally wrong as tracks are sorted by track number ignoring the disk number, in other words I find all the first tracks of all disks, then the second tracks and so on … as you can see in this screenshotB7F65643-2EAD-44CD-9CA4-5ADC76B046F5.thumb.png.e6873230c775d6c449f1fbaf49ba57a0.png

    … here another example

Wagner: Der Ring Des Nibelungen - Solti

In this album there are four different SET SUBTITLES for each section but they are shown in this way … totally unusable
