You are wrong.  It sounds JUST FINE.

(I will however acknowledge it might sound better with high end electrostatics or ribbon/planar speakers.)

It doesn't sound "JUST FINE "; it sounds like an audio system - which is what the problem is ...

Also, it would sound better if the driving chain was better sorted - I'm certain that Elac speakers would have no trouble knocking your socks off, if fed a better class of signal - but the industry has got in its head that lower cost speakers must use lower cost preceding electronics - it's how the universe is meant to work, :P.

What the f... are we arguing about??  First off, evaluating equipment in audio show conditions WHILE ACTUALLY BEING THERE is tough if not impossible (hotel rooms, ambient noise, etc etc), and now we are arguing whether this aural evaluation has any merit OVER A YOUTUBE VIDEO!!!??  I assumed this poster's comment was a one off pun and we would move on.  Oh how wrong I was.  😕

It sounds "JUST FINE ";  it doesn't sound like an audio system.  It sounds real, mellifluous, vibrant with notes of lemon in the aftertaste and a nutty entre.

    I wasn't there, so I should know!!

Anyone who can throw the word "mellifluous" into the conversation, in a casual, relaxed way, is my kinda guy ...

I wasn't there either -and- refused to watch the clips, so my judgement is even better:

It has been one of the best performances I have never witnessed. It's only because you lot keep mentioning it was equipment instead of a life performance, because honestly, I can't tell.

    Hi Chris,

What is the make of the speaker with the red/orange cabinet in the first photo?

(sigh) ... let's go back a touch. The Avantgarde rig is Chris's choice as best in show, here,

and at least a couple of people noted that the capture by Chris of the sound, in those terrible hotel rooms, and ambient noise, isn't the shi!ttiest SQ they have ever heard - would the Elac rig, playing exactly the same track, sound exactly like that - and if not, why not?

Is it a normal crappy recording, distorted by the Avantgarde rig, to make it sound better than it really is? Or are you listening to the actual recording, with minimal adulteration by the playback chain?

Yes regardless of what some people claiming, the difference between some audio systems and how they are set up can be so big that it actually can be captured and presented over YouTube, or you can hear it in the shows hallway before you have even entering the room.

Not Chris here, but I believe that speaker is from Gryphon.
