    RMAF 2012 Panorama

thumb-250.pngWould you have a picnic in your basement? Of course not. Why should we listen to our favorite music on our favorite equipment in the stale atmosphere of a typical hotel room? Thanks to Alex Brinkman and the Ayre acoustics team for raising the bar when it comes to creating a relaxing more home-like environment at RMAF 2012. Walking into the Ayre Acoustics room was like walking on the set of Mad Men ex.png. I loved every second relaxing and even listening to a little Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream on orange colored vinyl. Hopefully more companies will follow Ayre's lead with respect to creating a welcoming environment for show visitors. At this year's show I brought my iPhone 5 running iOS 6. I took advantage of the new panorama feature, that has been available on nearly all other phones for years, to shoot photos of a few of the rooms I spent time in and found interesting equipment and people. I also want to thank Majorie Baumert and the Colorado Audio Society for organizing an awesome show. I can't wait until next year.

    Chris,

Given that you had a chance to survey the computer audio landscape at RMAF, were there any newcomers to the DAC/DP scene that caught your special attention/worth pursuing - besides those already noted in your previous reviews or on the C.A.S.H. list?

I am very hesitant about newcomers. We've seen a few come and go and leave users on the forum hung out to dry. I have to wait to learn more about new companies.

Very interesting perspective! I think a 14mm lens on a DSLR will be interesting to see... :) Any comment on how the little Kef and Venere sounds??

I had a 20mm on my Lumix GH2 in addition to my iPhone 5. A 14mm on a full frame sensor would be really nice.

The Venere had a really smooth sound that was very pleasing considering the tough room conditions.

I think it's going to be a terrific speaker and the price is right.

A DP friend of mine has the Lumix and he interchanges his professional lenses with it... and loves it. Thanks for the response regarding newcomers Chris. Did you get to hear the Aesthetix Pandora? Have been curious about it.
