    CES 2014 Preview

    1-Pixel.pngthumb.jpg

Happy 2014 to the CA readers around the world! CES starts Tuesday January 7, 2014 and runs through Friday the 10th. As usually there will be thousands of new products announced at the show. I'll be covering as much of the event as possible, focussing Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday on the high performance audio sections and Friday focussing on the main convention center where all the computer related products and mainstream consumer electronics are on display.

It's easy to get jaded after attending several audio and electronics shows, as evidenced by many writers complaining about the lines, the bad sound, the "hassle" of running from hotel to hotel, etc… However, we shouldn't forget these are first world "problems" that many people would love to experience. I'm looking forward to CES more than ever. I love technology, audio, music, computers, and the amalgamation of all of it into the next phase of high end computer audio. This is a major reason I got into the business. I live for this stuff. In November 2007 when I launched Computer Audiophile I dreamed of covering CES and writing about new products. I look forward to living this dream once again in a few days.

Without further ado, here is a list of some products I'm looking forward to seeing at CES this year.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

ARIES includes a switchable USB host output; digital AES/EBU, coaxial and Toslink connections driven by AURALiC's patented ActiveUSB technology; and an extremely accurate Femto Master Clock.

I wonder if the the M-Disc by LG and other partners will be talked about as a method for archiving digital assets? It's basically a new Blu-Ray blank that uses a non organic die that essentially engraves the data info in the disc substrate. They are stating a 1000 year life span via ISO testing with no apparent effects caused by light or heat.

I love the idea but nobody will be able to read the disc in 20 years. I just threw away my last floppy drive this week :~)

Floppy drives? I got rid of mine years ago.

They'll probably be able to read the disc in 20 years, but you might have to go to a computer museum to find a working computer that has a working drive. LOL.
